Japanese Inception promos to prominently feature Watanabe photo

Unlike its American promotional material, Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, Inception, has undergone several changes for Japanese audiences. While the original poster features Leonardo DiCaprio alone, Japanese marketing materials are a bit more focused on the entire main cast, one of which happens to be Ken Watanabe. I suppose that's understandable considering Watanabe is one of the few Japanese stars to achieve worldwide recognition, having played a prominent role in several major Hollywood pictures like The Last Samurai.

I wish I could provide a link to a high quality scan of the poster but you'll have to settle for what amounts to a thumbnail that you view here. On the other hand, you can view the Japanese trailer after the break -- as you can imagine, it also focuses rather heavily on Watanabe's role in the film.

Legacy Comments

I'm a huge Batman and Prestige fan, so this movie is at the top of my to do list this summer.

It'd be funny if Watanabe only got a total of like 5 mins of screen time, yet was used prominently in the ads :)
This looks like it might be one of the greatest films of all time

We'll see though
My whole summer leads up to the release of this film.

Oh, this is going to be good.
Eh, I'm pretty sure this happens all the time whenever a movie with a cast of clearly non American actors happen to be in it. Personally, I've always been a fan of posters and trailers that focus on character other than the main ones.

That said, Inception looks absolutely amazing, that and Scott Pilgrim look like the only two things that will save this relatively lackluster Summer movie season.
and June-bug's there too! :)
Christopher Nolan can't make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without losing my interest...
No, INCEPTION is not the only hope to save this summer movie season. No one should pin all their hopes on one movie.

That said...it still looks like an amazing, intriguing film, and I'm glad that a lot of the plot elements have been kept under wraps. Nolan is a solid filmmaker who has an excellent track record, and this might be the closest he's done to a science fiction film. Will it be worth seeing? I don't know...but I'm certainly seeing it in the theater.

And Watanabe is the best. The man can just stand their and he'll steal the scene in any movie.
The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, and the Prestige was insanely awesome.
Definitely looking forward to this one.
