The power of the moe-blob is in full force, as the K-ON character album Hokago Teatime debuted at #1 on the Oricon weekly charts, and has made a landmark as the first album by a fictional cast to reach #1. The CD sold some 67,000 copies, showing just how powerful the girls of K-ON can be.
While I'm certainly no Zac Bentz, I went ahead and took a quick listen to the album, and it strikes me as the stuff I would expect out of a character album, but with some more effort put into it. The characters' voices are not especially suited to singing -- at least not the pathetic Yui -- and so it will grate on me when I hear it.
But otherwise, the album was just fine to listen to. It'll join up with the other anime music that's sitting on my iPod, although it's one of the few character albums that are there. Is it worth the 2,205 yen that they're charging for four songs plus a second CD featuring remixes of those songs? I don't think so. But I guess that's just because I can't stand Yui, so it's my fault in the end.
