There was a good reason why those bug eyed bikers were not allowed in Sunday's segment. OOO has come to an end, and it deserves the proper method to see it off. Will OOO be remembered among the other Kamen Rider series, or will it end up disappointing the expectations of many viewers. Lets us give this series the proper farewell in the Crimson Blade's first final impression of a series.
From last week's set up, Kougami had everything ready for his ultimate plan to use OOO as the container to the medals. The final Greeed was now fully revived, and it is up to the former duo to get in his way. As this was all going on, there were some major decisions that were going to affect the fate of the entire series. With one episode left, the series was in a tight corner in terms of creating a proper ending that could satisfy its viewers. When OOO started off, it was an interesting concept to see an underdog type of character take the role of a Kamen Rider. A man who has no home to live in, but instead travels the world with whatever amount of money he can make along the way. The moment he takes the role of Kamen Rider, he was put in a situation where there was going to have a huge price to pay for the pact he made with the being known as Ankh.
Throughout the series there were many characters with unknown motives to the point where it was hard to tell what their affinity was going to be by the end of the series. Just when you thought the Greeed were going to be the only main villains that had to be taken care of, the show manages to throw a few surprises to deviate from the typical good versus evil you expect in most action shows. We were also taught about the consequences of letting one's desire go out of control. At the same time, we were also taught about the benefits of having desires if one learns how to utilize them properly. Best of all, the show did a good job at surprising us throughout the whole series.
Unfortunate to most, the finale of the series might have felt a bit rushed due to the series being 48 episodes instead of 49. However, just because it was a bit rushed does not mean it was disappointing. During the finale we were shown the true intentions of Kougami, and Doctor Maki's true method of how he was going to bring everything to an end. The fate of humanity was going to be determined in this final battle. You have to give Kougami props, since he was preparing a birthday cake as he was close to reaching his demise. Even at the heart of chaos, one should not miss out on commemorating one's birth.
Before the final battle, we were treated to a more soothing version of Anything Goes while the trio was spending one last peaceful moment. This scene gave us a vibe that things were going to get grim soon. Once the battle came along, we were given a handful of impressive fight sequences. Including some neat aerial fight scenes between the main duo and Doctor Maki. What also made it worth while was that all the setups that were done previously all played a huge role in this. Eiji's final decision, the path Ankh chose, and all the people that Eiji got to bond with.
Most may have wanted OOO to fight the original king, or see a power that would result in all the medals combining powers. In the end there was a similar result, which may have not been what most expected. But we still got an aftermath of that power coming together. With the final blow to end it all, we were treated to witnessing a different take on the abilities of a combo that is connected to Eiji's long time comrade. Thanks to this last attack, a beacon of hope was bestowed to our main hero.
We may have lost an important character, but everyone was able to return to their normal lives afterwards. We were also given hope after the end of the series. All in all, this was very satisfying. We get a resolution to the conflict, we get to see what all the characters are going to do afterwards, and we are given hope. Best of all, the series did something different with the state of the Kamen Rider power. An aspect that is rarely done within its franchise. It was also neat to see an easter egg that is connected to the next series. Sadly, we did not get an explanation on Hina's strength. But hopefully it will be explained in the OOO Wonderful movie, or in a future movie.
OOO you will be missed, but your memories will continue to live within us all. You maybe part of an ongoing franchise, but that does not mean that a good story will not come out of it. We will always remember the importance of controlling our desires, and how they can help us grow as a society.
