Ah, I daydream of the nerdy delights of a Kinokuniya book store. There's simply not enough of them to go around, but at least they're working on it. A new location has come to New York (1073 Avenue of the Americas, New York City) and they're throwing a cosplay party to celebrate.
Kinokuniya's Cosplay Day takes place on November 3rd, any anyone showing up in costume will receive a 10 percent discount on manga and anime purchases. They'll also be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 weekend passes to the New York Anime Festival. You'll want to get there early, as only 500 complimentary VIZ gift bags will be given out.
This new store, opened October 20th, looks to be the ultimate of US-based Kinokuniya stores, sporting three floors and 24,000 square feet of Japanese magazines, artbooks, DVDs, CDs, clothing, cosplay accessories, toys, and cultural items as well as English-language books, manga, and anime and more. There's even a café overlooking Bryant Park inside!
"We've very excited to be sponsoring the Cosplay Day at Kinokuniya," NYAF Show Manager John McGeary said. "The success of Kinokuniya demonstrates just how much Japanese values, tradition, and culture have become a part of America's culture, a blending that is also at the heart of the New York Anime Festival."
We'll see if we can get someone to attend and snap some shots, and possibly snag me a VIZ gift bag.
But nevertheless, I demand to see God Len cosplaying as Monkey D. Luffy.
