Master Asia called it. Former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is coming back to lead the Japanese people, this time in the form of a mahjong anime. Adapted from a totally kickass manga, no story details have been announced, as the news came from the cover of the latest volume of the manga.
With any luck, we'll see the whole cast of characters in play, including the Pope and Hitler and his secret moon base. Like I said before, this sh*t is bananas. The story is about all different world leaders -- past and present -- solving crisis after crisis with high-stakes games of mahjong. Each leader has their own playing style and proclivities, but I haven't been able to see the full extent of it, as Xayamon only scanlated the first chapter of the manga.
Alright, Vertical: you need to license this manga, and get FUNimation to license the anime. It will make me the happiest man alive if you do so. Just imagine how well this will turn out if the animation style can live up to the manga. Check out a few shots down in the gallery to see what I mean.
Who do you want to see animate this? Who could possibly handle the task of creating a high-stakes series like The Legend of Koizumi? I'd like to put my money towards Madhouse.
