Licensing GET: Sentai Filmworks summons Angel Beats! photo

Time to have some Mapo Tofu in celebration, because Sentai Filmworks has just announced the North American licensing for Angel Beats! the Jun Maeda-authored Kana Hanazawa-promoting masterpiece.

The show is set to hit in style, with both a DVD and Blu-ray release, as well as an English dub, with a preview of some of the dubbed episodes set for a reveal at Anime Boston.

In case you missed it last year, it's about Purgatory being a fake high school, with a bunch of kids living in it that all have some beef with God, and his representative, Kana Hanazawa, also known as "Angel".

It is with some embarrassment that I will admit to learning how to make Mapo Tofu after watching Angel Beats! (though watching Cooking Master Boy right after almost certainly contributed to that motivation), so Sentai can count me among those interested.

In case you're not interested yet, try checking out the OP below. Personally I prefer the Yui version, but this one's got Angel in it, so hey.

When is this set to release?
13 episodes....

Average price of 13 episode anime: 20-30 dollars
average price of 13 episode anime from sentai: 40-50 dollars

hate sentai...their KEY dubs are terrible too....gonna stick to my 1080p subtitles on this one...unless they get sane on their prices.I can live with the dub option being available and not forced but the price is killer.
Angel Beats was, despite all its glaring flaws, still my most favourite anime of all time. I'll be checking this out.
I was doing backflips when I saw this earlier today. I utterly loved Angel Beats! and its without a doubt my favourite anime series I've ever seen.

Now here's hoping it gets licensed for the UK this year! =D
Mapo Tofu is freaking delicious, guys. Seriously, go try some. So good.

...
What were we talking about again?

Oh right Angel Beats. That's pretty cool, I guess. But my policy stays the same: No sale= no buy.
Great news that it's making it over, it's flawed but a really interesting show. Hoping a UK distributor takes note now.
This show has one of the worst ending songs of the previous year.
First Yumekui Merry and now Angel Beats!, these Sentai guys really want my money huh.
Nice, I'll buy Angel Beats, it was a good show.
"Dat's-a Bingo!"

Never really liked Angel Beats!, but then again I did drop it after the second episode, so maybe I'll give it another shot....
>Angel Beats! Licensed

OH THANK YOU GO-

FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Their KEY dubs aren't amazing but they aren't that good either. Sentai's dubs often walk the line of 'passable' way too often.

Really, REALLY would have preferred Aniplex to just release a subbed blu-ray, but w/e, I'll pick it up eventually.

...You know, provided I get all the episodes on one blu-ray at one time. I'm not doing any buying of multiple discs unless I'm promised some Collector's Edition for each one.
hahaha Sentai you never fail in making me happy do you? first Merry and now Angel Beats? Bravo good sir Bravo. i couldn't find a release date ANN so I'm assuming late summer or fall. also Lucky punks at Anime Boston haha
Eh, I probably would've preferred Funimation dubbing it since that would mean some variation from Chris Patton etc., but this is still nice. At least Sentai does good bluray processing. I'll probably pick this up relatively quickly.
Happy that Angel Beats got licensed but not so much that Sentai got it. But i'll still buy it cause I loved the show despite its flaws and looking like Haruhi.

@The-Excel: Listen to the Girls Dead Monster version of the ending theme. It's much better.
@deathbymoe:
I'd pay for the opportunity to slay the Girls Dead Monster. I don't understand how my brothers tolerate them.
Sweet! Glad to see this licensed and receiving the BD treatment. Assuming the original audio is still available I will picking this up pretty quickly.
I disagree good sir, the Yui version of that song is missing the sexiest Angel Beats! character. No I am not talking about Kanade (she is alright too though). I am talking about DAT PIANO!
I was worried that it might get a sub-only releasing. I'm glad those worries can be laid to rest. I'm definitely preordering this, even though my wallet will hate me.
@The-Excel

Hating GirlsDeMo what's wrong with you?
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! DONT' YOU DARE FUCK HIM UP!!!!

Other then that, FUCK YEAH!!! X)
Good show, but suffers from being too short and falling through tons and tons of loopholes at the end. It's actually a really good property to license, but I probably wouldn't buy it.

The GirlsDeMo album is actually pretty good, give it a listen sometime.
The first few episodes were pretty good, but the series as a whole is average at best.
I agree with Sour and Greed. The show had so much potential early on but fell flat for me as the story progressed...

Which is a shame considering how the main characters tragic-hero backstory is pretty decent. (If a bit hammy)
