Live-action Akira is not dead yet!

Live-action Akira is not dead yet! photo

It has been awhile since you heard anything about this movie -- around 2003 if I remember correctly. Then it died and disappeared for four or so years with Stephen Norrington, the director of Blade and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He was supposed to direct the movie, but ended up quitting after failing with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Warner Brothers decided enough is enough, and gave the directors chair over to Ruairi Robinson.

Ruairi Robinson is an Oscar-nominated, yet relatively unknown director. Supposedly, the reason why Ruairi got this job is because of his short film, The Silent City, which can be seen here. Now I wonder why Warner Brothers has decided to pick up the pace on this anime adaptation? Could it be because of the live-action Dragon Ball Z film, and how it is currently building up steam for a releases this century?

Whatever the reason that it's now on the right path, I’m looking forward to Warner Brother’s adaptation of this anime classic. Yes, adaptation. This will not record over the old movie, or eat the manga after its release. Its just an adaptation of it, so please just enjoy it as an adaptation and not part of Akira cannon that will ruin anything that came before it. This isn’t Star Wars.
