As for live action TTGL..... I think they'd get to filming and right around the time that Chouginga appears the camera or computer making the CG for it would just explode....it wouldn't even make it to rendering the full size Tengen Toppa...

I feel this is a medium of film that has finally made something worse than video game movies.

The article makes it sound like there ISN'T already A Bebop live-action in production..but there is..I guess you just forogt.

The sad thing is almost all of these would suck in a live action movie form. The problem is that the characters from the shows in question are impossible to reproduce live action. They were just to great and it should not even be attempted. There are a few anime that can be pulled off live action but the rest of them should just be left alone. Or at the very least be done in CGI as that would at least get the characters to look closer to the source instead of butchering them.

I think the only series that could fly would be Cowboy Bebop or one similar just because of how "realistic" it is. The others would be too heavily reliant on CG and would probably be too overly done and cheesy to make it even look good. Add on the fact how americanized it would be and totally ruin a lot of the originality it originally had.

On second thought, I don't know about Bebop. It would be too much to try to fit Spike's whole issue with Vicious into a movie, but thats the only solid plot overall the series pretty much had. Unless it just fits into how the series as a whole pretty much was, with stand alone stories and they make up a new bounty to go after. But then its similar to pretty much every american movie except its in space.

A live action Ghost in the Shell IS in the works. Dreamworks.

@Sora: The factor that made Bebop great was its story and character personalities. The story for the main show however was heavily reliant on showing the characters you had come to know in various different situations and showing how they reacted. The problem with a live action movie adaptation is 1) character personalities are gonna get butchered, or at least some of them will be, 2) the story is going to be warped in one messed up paradigm shifted way or another, and 3) even if they did keep the main back story the same, if Hollywood has taught us anything, it's that the movie's story will have barely any relevance to the previous plot that made it great, and will probably mess up a lot of past details in the process.

For those of you who have ever tried reviewing or read reviews on anime production companies and seen what makes the good ones good and the bad ones bad, you'll notice a consistent trend. Bad animation production companies tend to warp around already proven source material in an attempt to make it "appeal" better to an audience, whereas good production companies tend to either leave the source alone if it's good already and just follow it to the letter, or get someone from the original source production to help them out with making their adaptation. The former would be Gonzo and Studio Deen, and the latter would be KyoAni.

To try to rank Hollywood producers on that chart would be an insult to even Gonzo...

For me the attempt to make the character look like the anime characters ruins it for me. Its not possible so they don't even really need to try. They should try to preserve the plot as much as possible and go from there. But that will never happen so I will probably never watch the movies, except maybe on international airline flights. When I flew across the pacific last summer I watched every show and movie they had.

I keep saying not to kid myself about them actually making an Eva movie, that they'll never do it, but I said the same thing about Dragon Ball 7 years ago.

There was? I've never heard about it. I'm just saying that if you got something like Gundam gave it a huge budget, a good production studio, and it's own story it could be great. It'd be a whole lot better than taking loved stories and bastardizing them in order to put them into live action.

They're already talking about making a Ghost in the Shell movie, and its called Blade Runner 2.

ACTUALLY, technically speaking that movie never used the word Gundam anywhere in the movie or in the name... plus it was made by a primarily Canadian production team and cast...

@darkcyder: The atrocity he's referring to is a little known film called "G Saviour" that was made in 2000 as part of Sunrise celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Gundam. The other production for that celebration was Turn A Gundam. Let's just say G Saviour was so bad, even Yoshiyuki Tomino (the original creator/writer of Gundam) said he hated it. I just wish he said the same about GSD publicly...

They should make a live action film to Furi Kuri... people exiting the theater after 2 hours would be like WHAT THE FXXK!

What are you talking about? Live action Robotech would be AWESOME. Cut up scenes from Firefly, Star Wars and Star Trek then completely redub the thing! I smell a box office hit!
