Now this make me very conflicted. As much as I am for freedom and anti censorship I can't help but the glad that the entire loli crap might,tho' highly unlikely, go away. What if someone draws a character who is a 'female' robot, who has small breasts and a big head and is said in the story to be over 20 years old, and shows her panties.

Is that going to be illegal?

What if the character didn't wear panties, but had a pelvic body structure which was coloured like panties.

Where is it all going to end?

This isn't a law about real effects of porn or artistic depictions, it is about the different ideas in people's heads. Anyone can imagine anything, and other people can imagine something completely different in the same situation.

Hi all, first ever post and all that so thanks for having me. Saddens me to start on a down note but, to all those who think this idiot law will never pass, I only hope you're right. Britain has just sleepwalked into passing a law that is the exact duplicate of this. Posession of any depiction of minors, or people who 'can be reasonably assumed' to be minors - irrespective of whatever age the artist/author depicts them as, or fantasy figures/creatures who might be taken to resemble minors engaged in or included in the same image as sexual acts (are you following this?) can now get you three years in prison. And this includes depictions of 16/17 year olds, i.e. people who can have sex legally In The Real World - a place the authors of this kind of legislation don't seem to frequent too often. This country truly is a madhouse. I'd imagined Japan would remain immune from this hysterical BS but seems like the writing is on the wall. Sad, sad world we live in...

I want the over protective moms who came up with this (and i realize that is just mere speculation and wishful thinking....but you get the point) to be flayed in the streets. I understand the sentiments behind this law, and I also appreciate the over all intent. At this point though all it is is people's fears over child molestation snowballing into something that is totally different. The sad thing is, the people who are coming up with these laws actually believe that censoring "child-like" characters in anime and manga would bring an end to the issue. There's always going to be a huge number of fans of the loli genre, the preference is as old as human civilization (not saying its a good part about it). One law like this won't do anything but stir up people's rebellious attitudes towards it. If nothing else this will just increase the amount of underground loli output.

We should make it illegal for minors to commit sexual acts. Oh wait since they are minors they cannot be tried as adults. Hmmm... but in the 16-17 range would the exception be made to try them as adults as in most homicide cases? And i do not believe it is the currently targeted or censored material that is having an influence on their lustful sins of the flesh. It is the media that makes it past the censorship that is corrupting them. I don't listen to the radio because all the stations are playing songs with obvious sexual undertones to much T&A.

Then that would also mean that even if the person is legally 18 but since their genetic makeup makes them look younger than they really are should be barred from pornography. Yes she's 18. then why does she look like she's 13??

This bill doesn't even appear to be about loli porn drawings or whatever...it says any character that looks as if it might be under 18 and might be "sexually provocative." That is a far, far cry from being specifically about lolicon stuff. It's a totally crazy law if I ever heard one, regardless of what kind of cartoons you like or why you watch/read them.

A sad day truly. If you think about it, it is the same with gun control bills, by saying it is not people that kill people, but guns that kill people thus by getting rid of guns you will automatically solve the problem, but if you really wanted to kill somebody you can stab him/her to death with your mechanical pencil as long as the desire is great enough. Thus by the same reasoning: by censoring or getting rid of all things loli, like innocent fan service shots, this will automatically solve the problem with child molesters. For it is not molesters that molest children but loli images.

Remember laws are there only for law abiding citizens. Those who commit crimes will continue to commit crimes regardless of law. I agree these laws do little to solve the true problems while law makers use silly facades to garner public outcry support. Unfortunately majority of public is very impressionable and ignorant. I'd say life in prison without parole for child molesters, i hear the hardened criminals don't take lightly child molesters. Permanent revocation of licence if involved in a DUI or DWI severe injury or fatality of another person. Why? lets see sure life is difficult without a license but it's more than being DEAD. I can't understand the reason of censoring these anime movies too. Do they seduce our kids or what? I mean I have watched few series just to be sure if my kid is safe and I have seen absolutely nothing wrong in those movies. I will let my kid watch them in the future too.
