It's that hot time of the year, and heat calls for watermelons. Unfortunately, with a recession on it's a bit harder to drum up sales, which means that businesses need to adapt to tap new markets. Thankfully, one of the more reliable markets is that of the otaku, who often spend happily on whatever it is they want. What do they want? Moe.
Which, of course, is what these "Yume Akita" melons can provide. On the outside, a heartbreakingly-cute character illustration provided by famous artist Aoi Nishimata who has also provided illustrations for other moe-fied food staples, including rice and wine. On the inside, a top-grade watemelon. Sadly, the watermelon is not in a properly moe shape, such as a pyramid or cube.
You can fork over 3,150 yen for a whole one, or just a slice for less (starting August 25th). Eat your moe melon right after you have a satisfying moe rice meal supplemented by some moe seaweed, then sit back with a glass of moe wine and think about where your life has gone.

Also, melon-tan is really cute.
