Macross Frontier film #1 opens at 9th, doing pretty good photo

If you're smart enough to stay in tonight rather than braving the crazy Black Friday crowd surfs, maybe you could sleep all night and dream of going to Japan and catching the latest Macross Frontier movie that debuted last week. According to various sources, Macross Frontier: ~Itsuwari no Utahime~, or The False Songstress, began its first week at #9 on the box office charts.

All considered, that is not bad at all. The movie screened in 30 theaters and averaged about thirty-three big ones, in USD. Here are how some of its peers did:

Eva 2.0 - 120 screens, 4.26 million yen per screen
Eva 1.0 - 84 screens, 3.33 million yen per screen
Macross Frontier movie 1 - 30 screens, 2.9 million yen per screen
New Zeta gundam movie 1 - 83 screens, 1.93 million yen per screen

Let's not forget the second Rebuild of Evangelion film debuted at number one for its first week, so all considered the new Macross film did quite well. Anyways, it's food for thought if you're lining up for a dreary Black Friday morning. Too bad we can't line up for one of these yet.

[Thanks, Ko!]
