Mega Man Online to be a side-scrolling RPG?

I'm not even sure what to make of this. I love Mega Man, probably more than I should -- after all, the series probably ran its course years ago -- but this latest announcement has left me both worried and hopeful.

4gamer is reporting that the upcoming online title will in fact be a 3D side-scrolling action RPG. The closest thing I can think of that might match that description would be something akin to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night... in 3D -- if only, right?

The details provided so far have been relatively vague, but reports claim the game will retain the action-oriented gameplay of the original series, and will allow players to grow in strength over time, like every other MMORPG you come across these days. The only official artwork released so far shows both Mega man and Zero in Mega Man X attire. Anyone curious or excited about this? I admit I'm more curious than anything. I guess we'll see how it pans out.
