Morning Musume piss off Koreans with ill-advised blog

Morning Musume piss off Koreans with ill-advised blog photo

In a severe case of think before you type,  Kameri Eri and Tanaka Reina of Morning Musume fame have found themselves caught in a bit of racist trouble with a photo posted on Tanaka's blog. The photo has the girls posing in what looks to be a photo booth. The first photo is pretty normal, but the second photo has the girls making slanted eyes. Tanaka followed the photo by saying they were making themselves look Korean. This clearly didn't go over well with their Korean fans and the internet in general, so the post was promptly deleted.

I've got to say I'm really surprised. I thought pulling back on your eyes was a western derogatory way of impersonating an Asian person, but I've never seen one Asian do it to another. I'm not sure if it's more or less insulting to Koreans that a Japanese pop-tart would do something like this. What do you guys think?

I thought it'd be an insult to asians in general, which makes this situation even more awkward. But then again, I've never been called or even heard another person use the term "slanty-eyed" outside of movies.
The racial connotations common in the West work the other way, too. Think first-world versus second-world and you'll find a lot of connections in Asia alone.
Gahhh...not very intelligent/culturally aware of them. I mean, they must realize how terse Korean-Japanese relations have been for the last...70+ years.
it's a weird thing to me because some Japanese have the same eye type, so...
??

The korean government will be demanding money and brutally murdering animals over this. Normal day in korea.
brilliant, really
From a western perspective, this just makes no sense. It's like the citizens in potland making fun of their neighbours kettlesvania for being black.
Shows you the intelligence level of the fans, where instead of an angry backlash, they should have just laughed it off - because of the incredible meta-joke.

It's actually rather brilliant. The Koreans might as well pull their eyes into slits and say they are now Japanese.
Racism is huge in Japan. It's a small, pretty homogenous place, and has a massive superiority complex. They're nasty to gaijin of all kinds (especially women), blacks, other Asians, and above all, Koreans. They have a big hatred hard-on for those guys.

So, while the racist remark isn't surprising at all, it's still stupid.
Despite the racism, I just gotta say it:

The girls are fucking CUTE!!!
To me, racism is most of the time in the eyes of the beholder.

I was not born in Japan, but genetically, I'm 100% japanese. Even so, I can't differentiate japanese people from koreans, chineses or whatever.

Peoplez' nowadays are aways eager to scream "RACIST" and get angry for nothing.

There are jerks of all nationalities. You are better off hating them equally.
Oh boy, I remember when I was a kid and other kids used to do that to me. If I was no better than this girls, then I'd punch them in the face, but I find it too ironic that they use a racist remark that westerners very well have used on them too (on all of us Asians), so lol all the way.

Also, just to show you guys will shrug off anything a woman does as long as she's pretty, cute or beautiful, no matter if it's damn racist and insulting.

@occultangle: it seems you're one of the people who would keep on loving this girls. Good for you.
Awesome! Show those asians jew how they look like. Don't fuck with Morning Musume gooks.

Cowboy Bebop? Sunrise have run out of ideas

Sunrise, what's wrong with you? Seriously guys this is a load of rubbish. In a lame attempt to try and make something cool like Dragon Ball Z, they've just picked two random words and made an anime out of it. Cowboy Bebop? Wh...

Oh, damn: Kamisama Dolls writer can't a confirm sequel

Oh, damn indeed. I found Kamisama Dolls to be one of the more pleasant surprises of last season. It had a cool premise, lady characters who were almost invariably insane and/or adorable, and made the most of its wild shifts i...
