This one certainly threw me for a loop. In the spirit of Topher's "never enough Miku" philosophy, some 80 high schools across Japan will be using the song "Sakura no Ame" as their graduation song this semester.
The song follows a beat that's become all-too-generic to me, and the imagery, while nice, doesn't have that much of an effect on me since I never got to go to a Japanese high school. But, that's just my outsider's perspective -- I'm sure there are going to be quite a few people crying in the audience when this plays.
The song was originally uploaded as a Hatsune Miku song, and was so popular it got a CD release last year. The uploader's band, absorb, has been performing the song wherever they could -- most recently performing for Yachiyoshouin High on February 24th to a crowd of 2000.
I know Hatsune Miku is popular with the otaku crowd -- that's a given -- but I still marvel at just how far-reaching her presence has become.

Meh, that song is not really anything special. I mean, it could be that it's just not my thing or maybe it's that I've heard better Miku songs (for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgl6lsC93sk), who knows.
I can't see the reasoning behind the Miku part, but as for the song itself; isn't the music at high school events supposed to be generic to the point of cliche?
