A preview of Mahou Sensei Negima! Shiroki Tsubasa -ALA ALBA-, the third try at a Negima! anime, is now available on Kodansha's website for the OAD (Original Animation DVD) project. As I mentioned before, Negima! fans have been waiting for a long time for a decent anime adaptation of Ken Akamatsu's manga, and by the looks of this preview this time might just be it (knock on wood).
The character design by Minoru Mihara is closer to the manga, but still with a touch of Negima!? in it for the comedic parts. We'll have to see how director Akiyuki Shinbou's (Tsukiyomi MOON PHASE, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Soul Taker, Pani Poni Dash, Negima!?) unique style influences things (blackboard stuff again?), but with Ken Akamatsu himself handling the story and guaranteeing that it will follow the manga closely, fans shouldn't have that much to worry about (knock on wood).
The first OAD is set to go on sale in August with the special edition of volume 23 of the manga for 3,570 yen, so get your preorders in now so that Akamatsu-sensei will be able to make even more good Negima! anime!
Just watch the last two episodes of the first Negima anime {23 & 24 or 24 & 25}, cry your heart out and otherwise just read the manga.
Looks to err more on the side of light-hearted comedy than action again. *shrugs* Maybe making an anime of it isn't as easy as one would think.
I've never read the manga but I got the complete Negima! series (first one) for $8 when I went to the USA and that was pretty good (especially for $8).
Well hell, why don't they just do the last chapter of Negima? The festival had everything with combat, comedy, romance(lite), adventure, time traveling, and martains to boot!
It has it all and the company can go the Dragonball Z, BLEACH route of mixing the fun with the fight. I have no doubt that there's an audience for it in Nippon.
Unfortunately, I still think they're just trying to sell more voice actor CDs then the actual show in the last two attempts. And that shows in this one as well. Damn shame.
