New PSP One Piece game is a traditional RPG

New PSP One Piece game is a traditional RPG photo

Well this is kind of surprising.

The next video game based on the super popular series, One Piece, will be released on the PSP in Japan this winter. Furthermore, One Piece Romance Dawn will be a traditional RPG with some kind of command battle system. Expect RPG staples like leveling, attribute distribution and turn based combat.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Shonen battle manga are much better suited to high speed action games, not unlike Cyber Connect2's work on the Naruto franchise, or even the recent One Piece Musou. Slowly Luffy and co down to turn based back and forth combat strikes me as missing the point of Oda's insane action set pieces.

As a massive One Piece fan, I can't say I'm too excited for this one.
