New PV round-up
by Zac Bentz, 05/15/2008

Coming'atcha once again, it's another steaming hot pile of music videos from Japan!

Let's cut to the chase. The above video for “Kyoteizinc” from Omodaka is fantastic, as always. Actually, to be honest I don't think it's either his best song or best video ever, but that's only because he's done some really amazing stuff in the past. Nevertheless, this thing is something special. If you can reduce the woman dancing down to purely graphic elements like color and motion, I think you'll start to see the magic.

Want more? Let's see what we can find after the jump!

Matenrou Opera “Alkaloid Showcase”

This is the sort of thing that gives vis-kei a bad name. It's obviously a no-budget production, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. But did they really have to have the shots of them sulking against a wall? And the helicopter shots of New-York? What's up with that? Man, the shot of them with their hoodies on is just too much...

Monobright “Ano Tomeikan to Shounen”

Ah...the old band-as-kids-in-school gag. A time honored tradition if ever there was one. Toss in a handsome teacher who can totally shred that guitar solo and you've got happy feel-good vibe streaming out everyone's ass. Oh look! He's in the band now! GToo bad they didn't plug his guitar in...

The Three “Uragiri Gomen”

Time for a super group! Guitar god Tomoyasu Hotei, bass god Seiji Kameda of Tokyo Jihen and singer Kreva make up this power trio. Half pop-hop, half hair-ballad, the three manage to make a surprisingly weak song. The video could use less of The Three and more of whatever else is going on. Something about dancing I guess. It's tough to tell, what with all the orgasm guitar faces going on.

Acid Black Cherry “Kio Hitoyo”

If you ever wanted to watch Mr. Black Cherry fuck some faceless chick for four minutes, now's your chance! Then he kills her with fire. What a nice guy.

Orange Range “O2”

Hey look! Actors! Vague hints at plot! Even rudimentary cinematography! Someone really blew their wad on this one. I'm sure others will disagree, but I think the dog is the real star here. Anyway, this is actually a pretty cool video. I'd probably enjoy it even more if I cared for the band at all. Oh, and I guess it's the OP for some obscure anime series that I'm sure no one watches.

Versailles “The Revenant Choir” (Live at Hide Memorial Summit)

Here's a bit of a bonus video from the recent Hide Memorial Summit. I haven't seen many live videos of Versailles (aka none) so this is a rare treat. It's nice to hear that it's actually live and not just a backing track...well...not all of it at least. These guys are easily my favorite metal band at the moment. A little wobbly in parts, but hey, that's how you know it's live. Check them out at A-Kon this month!

Omodaka “Kokiriko Bushi” / “Cantata No. 147”

Remember what I said about OmodakaOmodaka in the beginning of all this madness? Well, here you go! You're welcome.
