Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the Japanese media has decided to cash in on Noriko Sakai's recent drug arrest with a feature film. While this sort of thing might end up as a made-for-tv movie in America, Japan is a different story. Titled Setsuna, and directed by Kasahara Masao, the film may actually recieve a full theatrical release. The script is said to be an adapation of the book Sakai Noriko: Kakureta Sugao, which translates roughly to The Hidden True Face of Sakai Noriko, which was written by entertainment reporter Nashimoto Masaru.
I find it kind of sickening that anyone would want to see this, let alone act in or direct it. To even produce this though? I'd like to think that they would really need the money to want to do something that deplorable. I don't think Noriko even got a say in the matter. I seriously doubt Sakai would willingly sign over the rights to her story, but I guess if someone decides to write a book about about something, it becomes par for the course. The whole thing is just really sad.
