Otakon '10: We're going, and so should you photo

In just a week, tens of thousands of otaku will be flooding the streets of the Inner Harbor in Baltimore to enjoy one of the biggest conventions on the East Coast. Not surprisingly, we're going to be there. In force. Otakon has become our not-quite-official gathering hole, as we fill Hitogoroshi's house to the gills.

So, after a number of questions about this, I've prepared a little Japanator Otakon Guide for you -- who from the staff will be there, what we'll be doing, and how you can meet us. Down after the jump, we've got all that information.

Be prepared: the night before Otakon starts -- Thursday, July 29th, I'll be posting our scavenger hunt guide. Take photos, win prizes, have a good time. In the meantime, though, let us know what you're planning on doing!

Who's Going
A number of us (9 in total!) will be reporting from the show floor. We'll be having an Otakon Scavenger Hunt, and one of the goals is to get your photo taken with one of the staffers. We've got nine of us in total reporting on the show floor:

  • Brad Rice
  • Dale North
  • Colette Bennett
  • Tim Sheehy
  • Ben Huber
  • Jeff Chuang
  • Pedro Cortes
  • Karen Leslie
  • Crystal White

Also joining us are:

What We're Covering
Naturally, there are panels at said convention, and we intend on covering some of them for you. So, if you're wondering what sort of "hard news" coverage you'll get from us, here's a taste:

Friday
Vertical Inc. Industry Panel
Aniplex Industry Panel
FUNimation Industry Panel

Saturday
h.Naoto Fashion Show
Bandai After Dark Industry Panel

Sunday
Tomopop's Japanese Figures, Toys and Collecting Panel

In addition to all that, we'll be interviewing the following guests:

  • h.Naoto
  • Masashi Ishihama
  • Masao Maruyama
  • Hiroshi Koujina
  • Takamasa Sakurai
  • Vic Mignogna
  • Felipe Smith

So, if you have any questions for these fine folks, leave them in the comments below. We want to make sure our interviews are interesting for all of you!

Most importantly, we'll be posting pictures. Lots and lots of high-quality pictures.

The Japanator Meetup

You guys want to meet us? We'd like to meet you too. On Sunday, we've got a lot of downtime, so I'm proposing Sunday at 1:30pm, inside/outside the Panel 4 room. Basically, we'll all be at Colette's panel, and we can all meet each other afterward.

bleh, i was gonna go but rest my friends decided to go on vacation to other then maryland xD still sounds awesome
Sunday or Saturday? The way you put it: "On Saturday, we've got a lot of downtime" makes me unsure which day you meant. I really want to meet you so help!
I'm going only because my family assumed I was this year. I had no plans to go this year until last month.
You will see me in my costume. Don't be scared of it.

Also yeah I'll try and be there. Got a brother and a friend going with me, so I might not be allowed to by majority vote.
I'll be there as Masq. staff.
Running a panel friday night about visual novels, 18+, would 'one' of the JTOR staffers consider coming please? :D

Also, is there any way to see photos of the various con attendees as so I can have a reference for spotting you amidst the crowds? I feel like if I commit it to memory, I have a better shot. :P
Yes! I'll be there as one Mr. Travis Touchdown. Looking forward to it guys!
Oh, I'm sure you guys will know us SOMEHOW.

We'll only be the most attractive people there at Otakon. Hands down. : P
Coming as Naoto Shirogane. Hope the scavenger hunt can be posted before Thursday night. I won't have my laptop to get online, lol.
Damn I wish I could go, but I'm too broke to attend any more cons this year. I'm looking forward to the "Brad vs Ben" fight and other coverage of the con.
@Crystal White:
Look me in the eye and say that.
@lauren Sunday. I am a man of indecision, and that causes typos.
I'll be there.
@The-Excel *stares you down*
I'm going next year. I'll have more money.
:D It'll be so cool to see the faces behind Japanator. Count me in!
yeah! it would be fun to meet all the jtor crew! Like meeting a younger, otaku version of "the office" guys

too bad I'm so far south :(
GRR! One of these years I'll have the cash to come to this thing. Have fun, y'all!
Man, I'd love to go to a real con like this as opposed to the crappy ones in Tennessee. Next year, I must go to Otakon.
Dahhhhh! Want to go so badly! Missing out on seeing so many great people. To those going, I am jealous. =(
Yes, I registered and linked my D-toid account (I think)! And double yes, I am so going! Going with friends, actually, but I'll still keep an eye out for you guys!

And be careful about your fight, Ben and Brad. The winner, whosoever it may be, may find themselves with a fake plastic ninja knife in the back... Muah ha ha ha haah.
Unfortunately money and college are saying no, but maybe I might be able to witness history at the NY ANime Fest. If not, hopefully next year.
Actually, I do have a question for each of those people: How y'all doin'?
I will be going to otakon,I'll be running around as either Fang from ff13 or Izumi from fma :) super excited to meet you guys
I'll see ya there!, The Blade will represent
Wish I could've made the meet up. I was in Vic's line forever. Luckily I randomly ran into Japanator staff and mangaed to say whatsup.
