Otaku formally marries Nene Anegasaki from Love Plus

Well ... I admit the whole phenomenon of marrying 2D characters gives me a chuckle. After all, I have an eternal thing for Kuroshitsuji's Sebastian, but when I realize the height of intimacy I can have with him is humping a dakimakura of him, the fantasy kind of fizzles for me. On the other hand, maybe some people have stronger imaginations than I do.

Anyway, we've heard tons about DS game Love Plus and all the crazy stuff it seems to make otaku do since it was released. Sankaku Complex reports that one man has taken it as far as to actually marry the game character Nene Anegasaki in a Guam church (see gallery for a photo of the church and the invitation). He also is planning a wedding reception back in Japan, where he apparently has invited media figures to attend.

NicoNicoDouga will be broadcasting the event live on November 22nd at 12:00 pm, in case you'd like to study it for your future marriage to Mio Akiyama.

Ar least wear a shirt dude, jeeze.
wow I like Nene myself but this shit is crazy.
"So why don't you marry it?" his friends sneered. Little did they know...
That is one devoted fan. Taking obsession to new heights for sure.
Well now, I'm just waiting for my otaku buddy over in Japan to follow suit.
This needs to be diagnosed as a mental sickness or something already.
Soooo...Is it polygamy then if more Otaku decide to marry this character, or does he have all-exclusive rights on her now?

Is he going to stand at the altar with a cardboard cutout or something? Kiss his DS screen? So many questions...
Meh, why not? If you're that lonely or scared to interact with the opposite sex in real life (or have been scarred by a real life relationship) I don't really see the problem. I mean if it makes him happy to do this why not let him and leave him be? I mean isn't that the point of life, to be happy? Who are we to judge what makes someone else happy as long as it's not hurting anyone.
So did he ask the creators for their blessing? And will they be walking her down the aisle?
I'd keep a Chobits-like robot over a real woman if I had the option and I'm not a bad looking guy at all.

There is just so much give and take in a long term relationship that an android woman would solve. She would be an instant whore for your every need. My place would be clean(er), my dinner cooked, and it wouldn't need gifts or medical insurance. And then you have the actual contact - be it a cuddle all the way up to whatever/whenever. I wouldn't marry it, though! :) I'd probably trade in my model every once in a while.

Oh well, at least this is harmless to third parties.
"Oh well, at least this is harmless to third parties."

Oh, but it's not. This is the kind of thing that gets other otaku harassed. When something strange and high-profile happens and gets publicized, it's the kind of thing that gives griefers fodder for their "fun"-making. "Oh, you're one of those weirdos that watches cartoons. Are you gonna marry Bugs Bunny? LAWL." Etc.

Of course, rational people understand that hardly anyone else does odd things like this, but the world is full of irrational people. It's the same kind of thing that happens when some kids dressed in black shoot up a school and Goths everywhere get looked down on afterwards. Extreme example, but it gets my point across.
I think he should be allowed to marry her... providing she can sign the marriage certificate.
Is the video game capable of giving informed consent?

No?

Then marrying it should remain illegal.
the interwebz in me says WTF!?!?! but the mexican in me says NO ME DIGAS!!!
American furries were already doing this a few years ago: http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/show/wedding
too bad her parents aren't paying for the wedding
So is he going to have to start paying royalty fees up the hole to the copyright owners or what?
I think this is terrible.
Nene is MINE.
Haha. This is awesome!

Seriously, the guy isn't hurting anybody. Purists, moralists and other "ists" who think this is wrong and the guy is retarded and whatever should be worried about killers, rapists, you know, the real bad guys.

This guy is just enjoying life. In a really distorced/awesome way, but he is not harming others.

All said, we have the right to make fun of him.

THE RIGHT, I said.
@Rank57: Saying that it's wrong, I agree with you, /mostly./ I mean, if "they" (he) are getting legal recognition for "their" (his) marriage...well you see where I'm going. It's basically just an easy way for 2d lovers or herbivores to get marriage benefits.

That said, I think that the likelihood of "them" (him) getting legal recognition is lulzy, and that we should not feel bad about making fun of "them" (him).
Next up on the list: dating illegally downloaded copies of your favorite celebs and anime characters and dating them.

DON'T DATE ROBOTS.
Wait.

She must cheat a LOT then :/
To point out something we may all have missed (myself included if I had not read the Digg comments), people are okay with a marriage between a man and a 2d character...

and,

have a problem with gay people getting married?
nene is mine, for her cuteness. i knew she could swim
I'll take nene, and MAYBE Manaka, because they are SOOOOO cute. I've seen Nene's and Manaka's swimsuits, which is how I knew the both of them can swim.
I think that the likelihood of "them" (him) getting legal recognition is lulzy, and that we should not feel bad about making fun of "them" (him). pandora charm
