Sentai Filmworks announced today that the upcoming Blu-ray release of Persona 4: Collection 1 will NOT have the Japanese language track. According to Sentai, this was "required by the Japanese licensor." In response, they have reduced the price of the first collection $10, going from $69.98 to $59.98. The DVD version will remain unchanged, both in price and content.

I understand that this is not the fault of Sentai, as we've seen other companies pull the Japanese track from the American releases. However, that's not enough for me to keep my pre-order of Persona 4. If I have a choice between the BD and the DVD release of a show, I'm always going to pick up the BD. If that BD happens to be lacking in vital features, such as the original language track, then I'm just not going to pick up the show. Call me a format snob, but I'm not going to pick up a lower quality version of a product just because of the wishes of the original licensor.
