Phantasy Star Online 2 confirmed to be going westHuzzah! Phantasy Star Online 2, the free sequel to the original Dreamcast game, has officially been announced for release in English speaking territories. We've got pretty much nothing in the way of details, save for that Sega is planning to launch the game in 2013. While it sucks that English speakers are going to have to wait so long, it might be worth it to make a character on Japanese servers so you can get a feel for the game. I've put many an hour into the official Japanese release and I've loved every minute of it. The game is beautiful, the story surprisingly entertaining, the action fast and furious and the music fantastic. This is the sequel that PSO fans have been waiting for since the original's release over ten years ago. If anybody has questions about the game, I'd be happy to answer them in the comments below. To be absolutely clear, PSO2 is entirely free to download and play. There are some minor paid content, but the game is so good that I don't mind giving them my money for certain things like the ability to trade items with teammates. For the record, the current unofficial English server is Ship 2. Sega has opened up an official English language site for the game, complete with announcement trailer. Be sure to check that out here.
