The header image I used for this post isn't actually from Titan Rain, a new international animation project, but the movie poster image provided was just too small. You can look at it in the gallery, though.
In any case, I.G., credited with such works as Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire, is going to hook up with Storm Lion of Singapore to produce Titan Rain using 3D CGI. So yeah, it looks like you can watch it with funny glasses on.
The story is being written by Tow Ubukata, who wrote Fafner, Heroic Age, and Le Chevalier d'Eon. Directing the project will be Atsushi Takeuchi, who was a mechanical designer for Ghost in the Shell, PatLabor, and JIN-ROH, and also directed an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, being the first Japanese creator to do so. Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki will be handling character concepts, with Bear McCreary (of Battlestar Galactica fame) will be composing the musical score.
That's some serious name-dropping there. Here's to seeing it succeed in 2012, its planned international premier date. Assuming the world hasn't ended yet, of course.
Incidentally, "Titan Rain" is also the codename given to a series of cyberattacks conducted against the United States allegedly by the Chinese military. I don't know what that has to do with the story, whose theme is apparently "Facing the harsh reality of life," but I think it would be pretty cool if they were connected.
Hackers considered, perhaps the header image is more relevant than I thought.
