First name: WithheldAh, Nikujaga - even reading about it makes me smile. It's interesting that everyone has their own variation on this (peas in this case). I guess every mother in Japan has a slightly different take. The recipie I found has shirataki noodles in there too, which I'd definitely recommend. I've also seen konnyaku mentioned as well...hmm, now I'm hungry and it's only 9am here...
Love your ethusiasm for Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi, Mr Josh. Sorry to burst your bubble but the manga was due out via Blu...i.e. Tokyopop R.I.P...i.e. won't be coming out 'til hell freezes over and someone else gets the license. Damn damn damn damn damn...
"Also I think a lot of people here fail to understand that democracy is a reflection of culture. The politicians represent the general feelings and beliefs of their constituents."
Here in the so-called birthplace of democracy a new government took office this year with the votes of 18% of the electorate. People are protesting in the streets against their agenda and are being beaten and hospitalised by the police. This is what democracy as we know it amounts too.
In the last year the UK passed a law that punished posession of the kind of material being outlawed by the TYO with THREE YEARS imprisonment. But it's okay because, hey - they're only after the Loli freaks, right?...
I'm confused by the wording of this thing. On the one hand it seems to be aiming to push 'harmful' material into adult-only sections of stores (or out of mainstream outlets altogether?). On the other hand it seems to want to regulate (i.e. stop dead) the production of such material at all. Of course these could be one and the same thing. Adult material has a much smaller catchment, sells less, is less profitable and therefore a much less attractive proposition to a faltering industry.
I suppose when dealing with someone like Ishihara, who clearly lives in a state of utter confusion and paranoia you can't expect clarity or reasoned argument. We'll see what happens Wednesday, I guess...
Whoops, misclicked - apologies...
'" We’ve got homosexuals casually appearing on even television" - Jesus Christ man, get a grip. This is the 21st century, not the 19th.' Well said Dragonzigg, sadly when it comes to gay politics Japan IS in the 19th century still. Trust me, I've made two visits to the country this past year and bliss it was to be alive etc etc, but when it comes to gay sex and sexuality...soooo messed up it's not true...
Somewhat belatedly - was in Tokyo at the end of last month. On this recommendation visited Mitsuboshi to fortify myself for a major geek-out at Nakano Broadway. Like the man said the curry is bliss on a plate.
Went for the Katsu curry and was not disappointed. Delicious and surprisingly spicy compared to regular Japanese curry. My companion (as they say in all the best restaurant reviews) chose the 'Melting Cheese Omelette' curry - at least I think that was the name. Despite being a miserable SOB on the day he sucked down the whole (immense) plateful and was very impressed.
All this and a Konata-perfect choco cornet for dessert on the way back to the train station. Truly a day out I will never forget.
Hi all, first ever post and all that so thanks for having me. Saddens me to start on a down note but, to all those who think this idiot law will never pass, I only hope you're right. Britain has just sleepwalked into passing a law that is the exact duplicate of this. Posession of any depiction of minors, or people who 'can be reasonably assumed' to be minors - irrespective of whatever age the artist/author depicts them as, or fantasy figures/creatures who might be taken to resemble minors engaged in or included in the same image as sexual acts (are you following this?) can now get you three years in prison. And this includes depictions of 16/17 year olds, i.e. people who can have sex legally In The Real World - a place the authors of this kind of legislation don't seem to frequent too often. This country truly is a madhouse. I'd imagined Japan would remain immune from this hysterical BS but seems like the writing is on the wall. Sad, sad world we live in...
