This doesn't so much fall into the category of "news" as it is an example of extreme fail. As a scanlation site -- not a group, but rather a major site that distributes all of these titles -- you do not want to attract the attention of Viz, Del Rey, or any other publisher. I can assure you, they really don't want to work with you.
So, it's really not the best idea to draft up a letter to Viz about how you want to partner with them as a method of distributing all sorts of titles and promoting the talents of all the translators, editors, cleaners, etc. It's a noble intention in theory, but you have to think about it from Viz's standpoint.
They've got their own pool of talent that is doing them quite well, they're producing titles at a good rate, and already have a strong online viewer. What are you going to offer them? Your address so they can send a C&D letter for the site, so that you stop distributing translations of their licensed works.
Well, whatever their intentions were, it provided for some good laughs amongst the twitter crowd last night. Sadly, we only came up with the #MHfail hashtag towards the end of the conversation, otherwise I'd direct you to check it out. You can still see the hilarity of the community up in arms over at MangaHelpers, where they've tried to backpedal and explain everything to their loyal fans.
