The release date of one of the last major DS games is approaching fast. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 will release on February 28, effectively marking the actual death of the DS, now that the 3DS has been out for almost a year. And man, is it looking tight.
Having little connection to the first game in terms of story, Devil Survivor 2 follows 13 kids who have made contracts with demons attempting to save the world from invaders. You can find out more at the new website that Atlus has officially launched, including information about the gameplay systems of the strategy RPG. New for this game is a relationship system, similar to Persona 3 and 4.
Or you can check out the first full trailer below to see Devil Survivor 2 in action. Ah, swan songs...they're always so pleasant, yet bittersweet...

We're moving one step closer to Roger Rabbit, thanks to a new accessory item from a Japanese designer. JumpFromPaper sells bags that use primary color blocks and heavy outlines to trick your eyes. The result is a bag that looks two-dimensional, despite being fully-functional three-dimensional bags.
The bags became a hot topic on Twitter with the keyword "2D bag," and they were featured on Sukkiri!!, a mid-day variety show. You can watch the clip below to see them in action. Think these bags would ever go over well in the US? It's certain they would turn some heads.

I've mentioned it before, but Game Arts' recently release Playstation Vita title, Ragnarok Odyssey, will be getting an online mode patched into it sometime in the near future. Up until now, we've had no details on how exactly this would function. In an interview posted on launch day, the developers have clarified a few details about what exactly the patch does.
You'll be able to use the in-game pub (a location in town) to jump into online sessions. Once connected, you'll see the other players in the lobby, be able to make gestures to them and communicate via text. These functions will of course also be usable during quests as well. If you've ever played Phantasy Star Online, I'm sure you have a pretty solid idea of what to expect from this.
I've been playing on and off since I picked RO up, and I've been having a good time so far. Online play only improves the chances of this going west, so keep your fingers crossed people.

Somehow this one slipped under our news radar, but better late than never! Follow-up to Recettear and Chantelise, Fortune Summoners is a 2D platformer/rpg with some delightfully oldschool visuals and an awesome localization, much like the previous two games. The game was actually released to Steam on January 30. The game is actually 25% off for the entire first week of release, so you can grab it now for $15.00. If you miss this chance, the standard MSRP is $20.00, so you still won't have to break the bank if push comes to shove.
If you'd rather wait to hear what we have to say about it, stay tuned for a review coming sometime in the very near future. As of the first few hours at least, I'm having a blast.
For the time being though, check out Carpe Fulgur's press release after the break!

Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena hits Japanese arcades in March. You can imagine that I'm feeling pretty impatient, as I've been wanting to put this game through its paces since Tokyo Game Show last year. Fortunately I won't have to wait much longer, but things like this hardly make it any easier.
Atlus has posted the opening video of the arcade edition of Mayonaka Arena to its youtube account. There isn't anything super exciting here, but it serves as another reminder that yes, this is a thing that exists.
Check out the video after the break.
March can't come soon enough.

Ero games. They are normally titled something like Yukkuri Panic: Escalation and Water Closet: The Forbidden Chamber. So when you scroll through these titles you have to stop at a title like My Girlfriend is the President. Politics? In a ero game? Well, yes and no. It's more of the backdrop then the main point. All the parts are still there for an ero game. So don't worry.
This seems like a very fresh change of pace from the norm, which can be a good thing. I'll explain more in detail after the jump.

As a promotion for the upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release of Puella Magi Madoka Magica in the States, Aniplex of America is showing people what their English dub is like. And they want not just the West to see it, but also Japan.
The first dubbed episode will be streamed on NicoNico Live on February 11, available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan (with Japanese subtitles). It will go live at 1:30PM Japan time, which is February 10, 11:30PM on the US's east coast and 8:30PM on the west coast. UK viewers can watch at February 11, 4:30AM, and Australia and New Zealand get it at February 11, 3:30PM. The episode will feature an introduction by English voice actors Christine Marie Cabaos (Madoka), Cristina Vee (Homura), and Cassandra Lee (Kyubey).
It's cool that Aniplex is trying to get the Madoka dub out there, but while I'm sure it will find its fans in the West, I can't see Japan really caring about it. I predict that immediately after the episode airs, 2chan will have a thread in which they complain about Westerners ruining their art.
