Only marginally creepy, probably because no terrifying features are identifiable, but I still can't approve of this thing being genuinely intended as a working substitute for female love, as opposed to, say, one of those toys you buy at cons because why the hell not ,and play with for a few days, then use it to mess with your cats' heads, and then somehow lose the next time you move. See, it's called the EMA, or "Eternal Maiden Actualization," and it sings, dances, and hands out meishi for you. (This seems remarkably stupid, considering how much importance the Japanese put in exchanging business cards--having a toy hand one over to a potential client is like attending dinner at the White House with a Hello Kitty blowup doll and introducing it as your life partner. ...But not so epic.)

Less forgivable is that she's got infrared sensors and batteries that prepare her for "love mode" - Sega Toys' own choice of words, so don't look at me like that - in which she...gets kissed. They claim she "puckers up," but her face is a friggin' flat piece of plastic, and the promo pic doesn't showcase any Transformers-porn-esque maneuverability. Sound effects? I'm not going to speculate any further on that part. It's hard to tell in this lead pic, but the EMAs have at least CCCs in front, if you catch my drift, and as the ol' folk saying goes, "If it's cute and 'safe' for non-sexually active young men to love, why the hell does it need a huge, unyielding plastic rack?" Let's ask Sega Toys spokeswoman Minako Sakanoue:

"Strong, tough and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that's sweet and interactive. [...]She's very lovable and though she's not a human, she can act like a real girlfriend."

Uh huh.
