It looks like quite a few flicks are making a debut in Japan, once again cannibalizing each other. Oceans, a sequel of sorts to Planet Earth, is likely to stay on the charts for quite a while, since Japan can enjoy that without worrying too much about plot. Also, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus performed better than I expected over there.
1. Avatar. 5th week, pulling in $5.75 million.
2. Oceans. 1st week, pulling in $3.76 million.
3. Surrogates. 1st week, pulling in $1.52 million.
4. Sayonara Itsuka. 1st week, pulling in $1.47 million.
5. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. 1st week, pulling in $1.46 million.
6. Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score - Act 1. 6th week, pulling in $1.21 million.
7. Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie: Super Fusion! Bonds That Transcends Time. 1st week, pulling in $1.15 million.
8. Where The Wild Things Are. 2nd week, pulling in $940k.
9. Bandage. 2nd week, pulling in $787k.
10. Up. 8th week, pulling in $780k.
Finally, we've seen This Is It fall off the charts after an extremely impressive run. The still I chose for today is from the film Sayonara Itsuka (Goodbye Someday), which you can check out the trailer for after the jump. As they say in it, this is a film about that one love you can never forget. Looks good, although I'm not sure if I'll make the effort to check it out.
Japan, you stupid.
