Welcome once again to Rock the Charts, where we give you the latest and greatest films over at the Japanese box office. This week, it's no surprise that Michael Jackson topped the charts, seeing as Japan has a healthy obsession with the man. And otherwise, we see that Pretty Cure debuted with a decent showing, considering the target audience. I'd expect DVD sales to be much higher, considering its "true" demographic.
1. Michael Jackson's This is It. 1st week, pulling in $5.74 million.
2. The Sun that Never Sets. 2nd week, pulling in $3.04 million.
3. I Give My First Love to You. 2nd week, pulling in $2.76 million.
4. Fresh Pretty Cure the Movie: The Kingdom of Toys. 1st week, pulling in $1.89 million.
5. Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor. 4th week, pulling in $1.63 million.
6. Feel the Wind. 1st week, pulling in $970k.
7. The Rebirth of Buddha. 3rd week, pulling in $781k.
8. Fast and the Furious 4. 4th week, pulling in $475k.
9. My Sister's Keeper. 4th week, pulling in $462k.
10. Sideways. 1st week, pulling in $417k.
I'm wondering if the Sideways film that debuted this week was the Japanese remake or if it was an additional screening they're doing in order to pump up excitement for the remake. Since it's coming from Fox International, and considering the poor performance, I'm assuming the latter.
