Rubber band machine gun will bring about a new age of peace
by Josh Tolentino, 08/09/2009

The Japan Rubber Band Gun Shooting Association has sent a symbolic "screw you" to traditional guns and bullets with the construction of a powerful rubber band machine gun. And yes, there is such a thing as a Rubber Band Gun Shooting Association.

The gun, as demonstrated above, is powered by a standard electric drill. The rotation of the drill pulls a rope around a drum riddled with nails. Up to two hundred standard office elastic bands are hooked between the front of the gun and the nails around the drum. As the drum spins, the rope lifts off its surface, unhooking the bands and sending them flying.

These nonlethal weapons should be ushered immediately into the armies of the world, for they will bring a new age of peace. After every engagement, each soldier will be forced to scour the battlefield to collect the foam darts, rubber bands, and tiny plastic pellets, giving everyone time to think about the reasoning behind the war and how to resolve international conflicts peacefully, so no one has to walk around picking up all the damn ammo over and over again.

Hit the jump for the Airsoft gun industry's response, a home-made Monster Hunter-style Gunlance.
