Did anyone here get a chance to go to Otakon Vegas? The show featured a panel for well-known novelist, Kaworu Kurosaki, wife of manga artist Nobuhiro Watsuki. She let everyone know that there will in fact be a Rurouni Kenshin manga spinoff. She also announced that the manga was going to be about enemy characters! [Editor's Note: Maybe Shishio and Yumi?] According to Kurosaki, Watsuki is currently preparing the new manga.
The manga is about Himura Kenshin, who travels the Japanese countryside during the 1870's, aiding people in order to make up for the murders he once committed. Somewhere along the line, he meets female swordmaster Kamiya Kaoru and saves her from a fight with someone who claimed to be, well, him. Long story short, they eventually develop love for each other, and beat down lots of bad guys in the process.
Even though Watsuki wasn't able to attend, his wife was happy to announce the new project on Friday, Jan. 2 at the panel. She even asked the audience to give suggestions on what characters to use in the manga! Personally I haven't seen or read Rurouni Kenshin, but if you want to get in on the ground floor, now's a great time to do so: the anime series just became available in both dubbed and subtitled form on Crunchyroll.
