Looks like this year will be one that Rurouni Kenshin fans won't soon forget. First we have the Kyoto Arc OVA releases and then a live action film that seems to be coming along nicely. This one is probably the most exciting, at least to me.
According to former Weekly Shonen Jump Editor Sasaki Hisashi's twitter account, original Rurouni Kenshin writer and artist Nobuhiro Watsuki will be penning a brand new Kenshin series in JUMP SQ, a monthly manga magazine. According to the main page, the series will debut in the June issue of the mag which goes on sale at the end of May typically. There's not a whole lot in the way of information on the main page, save for the word 'reboot' in katakana. No clue if this means a complete retelling of the story or simply a continuation. I'm assuming they just mean they're starting another series. I can't see Watsuki telling the same story all over again.
What do you guys think about this? Excited? Don't care? Rurouni Kenshin was the first manga that I ever read to completion, so seeing a brand new iteration of one of my all time favorites is certainly exciting to say the least. Given Watsuki's improved skills as an artist, I'd love to see him return to these characters again.
June can't come soon enough!
