If there's one thing, besides his films, that show that Satoshi Kon was a great man, it's his blog. And this last entry is heart-wrenching, because it shows a man who has left much behind, couldn't do everything that he dreamed of, and yet has accepted his fate.
A super genius that will be missed by all. Even those who will never know who he was.
I just saw my first of his masterpieces "Paprika" only a month-ish ago, and I knew as soon as the opening credits rolled, I knew that this would be one of the best movies I ever saw. And I was right. It's very sad to know that we will only have 1 more piece coming to us (and that is debatable, depending on how far along Dream Machine is).
Goodbye Satoshi Kon.

These are really touching final words. It's so sad. I wish the best for his family and friends..

All of this put together finally made it hit me in a way that made me tear up. Thank you for this.
And thank you, Satoshi Kon. For everything. You were a great man. And you did beautiful work. We will all truly, truly miss you. Rest in peace.

wow, this is so touching. the anime world and world at large has truly lost a great mind. RIP Mr. Kon.
Powerful, powerful final words, those are.
I haven't even gotten around to seeing his works yet, but... just, wow.
I hope that when I die, I'll think of my life like this.
Rest in Peace.

This made me cry too. I only now realized that he was behind Millennium Actress, a movie that really touched me deeply and his parting message brought tears to my eyes. I wasn't even expecting it because I don't even know him I just really "learned" about him what? a few days ago? Well, I can honestly say I hope he does rest in peace.
Wow, having read this, it really brings it home huh? His vision is gone from the world and we will never see it shine again. I have to say, the man wrote some truly beautiful and powerful final words. As I said before, I hope he rests in peace (and this time I spell peace correctly) knowing how much he's given to the world of animation.
C'est la vie...
They say the only way to live forever is to become a legend and live on in memory. I'd say he succeeded at least at that much.

...don't know what to say. Such powerful words from a truly great man. He will be deeply missed.
Requiescat in Pace

Oh great. Now I'm crying.
The world is a lesser place without him and there will definitely never be a person with the same vision as Satoshi Kon. I can only hope that his family finds peace in his passing.

The rest of his final message has been translated here: http://www.makikoitoh.com/journal/satoshi-kons-last-words
I figured this was important enough to make an account here.
Rest in Peace, Kon-sensei.

His work brought a lot of joy to my life, even if his work itself wasn't all about joy.
Even if he or his family never see this comment, I want to thank Mr. Kon for his work. It was some of the best.

Life isn't very fair, and we mostly understand this, but it would be nice if sometimes it was. It was only a few months ago when I was reviewing my favorite animation directors. I looked over the list and thought, "Anno, Makai, and Kon are all fairly young so I have lots of amazing, touching material to look forward to. Now I don't know if Dream Machine will happen, and what else had Mr. Kon envisioned for the remainder of his career? This is too sad....I'm trying hard to hold back bursting into tears as I type this. I love you Satoshi Kon. -Phil
What a brave man. I could never go out in dignity like he did, no fear whatsoever.
The collective community and industry have take a huge blow by losing this man.

Rest in peace, Kon-sensei. You'll be there every time I watch and rewatch Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent.
This is a shame, I thoroughly enjoyed his works, especially Tokyo Godfathers.
You've lived a good life and you were sent off with those of whom you cherished. Not a bad way to go, my only regret was that it was so soon.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! that is not right why did he have to die right in his prime its not even fair...my thoughts go out to his family rest in peace kon-sensei *sobs* you will NEVER be forgotten!!
wow, i dont think ive ever cried like this before.
Satoshi Kon has definitely touched alot of people with not only his blog but his work and just his entire being. Such dedication to everything he did even in his death bed he worries about others and for this he will truly be remembered as not only one of the best anime directors but as a master story teller and all around amazing human being.
R.I.P Satoshi Kon, gone but NEVER forgotten

Satoshi Kon was truely an amazing person with works that touched me deeply and helped me once in college (wrote a 30pages long essay about Tokyo Godfathers that helped me to a very good grade). Thinking that there won't be anymore films from hin is sad enough but leaving beloved ones behind is far more sadder.
You weren't egoistic, you deserved it.

There is no longer a purely definitive genius director of anime for this generation anymore with his passing. He can never be replaced.
Case in point, when I think about hurricane Katrina, I think of the final episode of Paranoia Agent that aired 8 days before it hit. Also, the fact that Inception used Paprika as an inspiration is enough to tell you how groundbreaking his work was.
He will be missed.
