So we all know about occasional rumors that the SZS anime being licensed for us westerners. Sadly it seems that every time we are let down. Del Rey has been bringing the manga out here (next volume next week!) but its hard to even get steady fansubs of Zoku SZS simply because it really is a huge undertaking to translate and communicate to people who are less familiar with the Japanese language and culture.
So by now you've already looked at the image I posted and have gone "wat." Simply put, this was an exercise for myself as a fledgling graphic designer to design a logo for something that could be coined "unmarketable." This is my first step. I hope to eventually create mockup box art or advertisements to develop the idea even further, but for now: just this.
I came up with this idea after looking at the relatively okay-looking but not awesome Del Rey covers. Del Rey has simply enough taken the original manga covers, scaled them down a bit, and added their own typeface title at the top.

Not neccesarily awful or anything, (and we often get much worse, Bandai or the others often have horribly incongruous cover and bind designs) but if definitely lacks the flavor of some of the originals. So I hoped to change this.

Let me know what you think. I'm always interested in design in anime, manga, and Japanese culture in general. A while back my Baccano! 2010 calender got posted here on Japanator (due in no small part to my own selfish promotion and God Len just plain being awesome). So hopefully I can bring more attention to some wonderful art from Japan through my art.
(is this a bit too much for the awesome fledgling Japanator blogs?) :P
Looks good, professional. All I can say is be prepared to use "So Long, Mr. Despair" or an english equivalent.
I have neither a hope nor a desire to see the anime get a localization. The japanese language is just too integral to the show.
