...but those who are aware of the manga it's based on know what's really going on.

The promises of Seikon no Qwaser are swollen with potential and bouncing with excitement. The series suckles heavily from the teat of fan service, much in the same way that Simoun ran on yuri lip-touching. 

Set in a Japanese Eastern Orthodox academy, the show uses fun Russian names and characters who feed on mother's milk to replenish (and gain) magic powers. Now,while breast milk has been at times called "liquid gold," I doubt it would allow its titular Qwasers to manipulate elemental iron.
