Was it really any surprise that yet another Evangelion-related would sell like gangbusters, not least the biggest Evangelion-related thing since, well, Evangelion? Of course not.
But this is, of course, a thing that hard numbers have to back, and back it the hard numbers do. The just-released Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance sold 125,000 DVDs and a whopping 195,000 Blu-rays on the first day of sales.
The latter figure is the most important, as that figure kicks the crap out of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn's paltry 56,000 copies, previously the top 1st-day anime Blu-ray. This proves forever that Evas beat Gundams. As if to add icing on the cake, Evangelion 2.22's first-day numbers also beat Michael Jackson's This Is It, making it the fastest-selling Blu-ray in Japan, ever.
What do you think? Does Eva 2.22 warrant those kinds of sales numbers? Personally I'd say yes, if only for Mari. Then again, I can't quite get behind the Unit-02 redesign. What's with that weird forehead crest?
