According to Ryuganji, fans of The Simpsons in Japan may be in for a big shock when The Simpsons Movie opens there. The long standing cast of voice actors will be largely replaced with new, inexperienced pop culture figures. Apparently "distributors 20th Century Fox explained that the switch was made in order to create 'the ideal fun Japanese family.'" Which is, of course, what the Simpsons are all about right?
Well, obviously the hardcore fans don't see it that way. Especially after the new voice of Homer, Tokoro Joji, had this to say:
"The recording session was tougher than I thought it'd be. But I couldn't help laughing when I was watching the movie, so the staff must have thought I was happy doing it. It was tough, so pay me more."
As Ryuganji points out, Tokoro is probably making loads more money from this one "tough" gig than veteran (and 78 year old) actor Ohira Toru has for most of his career. Imagine if K-Fed gave Dan Castellaneta the boot? Fox HQ would be a smoldering hole in the ground.
The Japanese fans have taken it upon themselves and started up a "Give Us Back The Original Dubbing Artists!" campaign. You can find the site here, and a quick translation of their mission statement after the jump. Someone needs to get those pesky 2ch mobs on this stat!
[Update- Added Japanese dubbed goodness after the jump]
Here's a taste of the Japanese dub: Also, there is actually a video for this very same campaign. WARNING! Video contains massive amounts of Nickleback!
