Space Battleship Yamato: Rebirth Chapter brings the big ship back after 26 years
by Brad Rice, 09/03/2009

There's something special about Space Battleship Yamato. While I have yet to see it, just watching this fills me with a sort of tingling excitement, like when I watch shows like Gundam or Gurren Lagann. Sure, it may just be that I get my kicks out of watching giant robots smash each other to bits, but I think it's something more than that.

It's the idea of man pushing forward into the unknown, taking a chance for the sake of humanity and the like. It's that whole "manly spirit" sort of thing, really. And so, this trailer for the sixth Yamato film has hit the Internets. A whopping 26 years since the last film came out, this rendition is laden with CGI.

The plot this time around? Save humanity, of course. An expanding black hole forces humanity to evacuate Earth, where they're attacked as they try to flee. So, it's up to the Yamato to strike back and protect humanity. I'm already excited just thinking about it. I'll have to wait until well after the film's December 12 debut in Japan.

Does anyone know which is the "right" set to buy when it comes to watching Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers? I'm having a hell of a time poking around Amazon trying to find it.
