Well, here's some good news for you all: It looks like Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are moving ahead with their plans to produce a remake of the Korean film Old Boy. All trains had stopped when Futabasha had sued Show East, the producer of Park Chan-Wook's 2003 mega-hit film.
Funny thing: Show East went ahead and shut down, and the CEO is nowhere to be found. That speaks volumes for the company when they're being sued. But it's not them who negotiated the deal with Universal -- that was Cineclick Asia, who is still in business. Oh, the business of Hollywood!
I'm still looking forward to this one. The story is one that crosses borders, and should do well as an adaptation. I know, Hollywood has a propensity for messing with Asian titles, but c'mon, this is Steven Spielberg!
