New People and its VIZ cinema movie theater are really tearing the scene up as an otaku destination. Before that San Francisco's Japantown neighborhood was really something of a wash most days. Aside from Kinokuniya bookstore and the nearby Japanese grocery store, there wasn't much there for the discerning weeaboo.

But with that stylish new mall-thing, a lot's changed, and much for the better. Fans of drilling are going to be excited, as VIZ Cinema will be showing both Gurren Lagann movie adaptations! This kicks ass, mainly because, based on all I've read so far, the movies represent the definitive version of the story, cutting out a lot of fhe TV series' filler and replacing it with awesome. This'll also be the first time the 2nd movie, Lagann-hen, will be shown on US soil, so there's always that fun "new movie" feeling to the whole affair.

If you're fortunate enough to live in the area, hit up the theater on November 17th and 18th, where both movies will be shown at 5PM and 730PM, respectively.
