Show Subject: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
I'll give you all a plot description, but I'm pretty confident most of you are familiar with this show. If anyone isn't, I suggest reading a few spoilers, because the odd premise was what broke my resistance to watching the show. We are going to record the show this Sunday night (10 PM EST,) and are still looking for another show lover to jump on board. Send us email on the tips line, or just post here. Otherwise, don't be afraid to leave some love (or loathing) for Haruhi. Possible comments could include what episode order you enjoyed more (broadcast or dvd,) thoughts on how lame espers sound/are (they were,) and which characters were your favorite.
Plot: Needless to say, the plot follows a student by the name of Haruhi Suzumiya, who has fallen into a deep "melancholy." Highly eccentric, she drags her fellow students on various entertaining misadventures.
The trick is Haruhi is actually... (continued after the jump)
God. Well, sort of. Its hypothesized that she has the unconscious ability to control the world. Her desire to meet aliens, espers, and time travelers was enough to will them into existence. That said, these people are terrifying devout int their desire to keep her entertained and ignorant. Thus, she will not will inadvertently destroy the world, or voluntarily remake it.
Granted, the show has terrific animation and great timing, but those are just pluses on that already amusing premise.
I mean, there are bigger things to come like a disappearance, a winter detective hunt, and a certain Sasaki (and I won't go into more). All bigger things that may be animated once KyoAni goes into the latter novels.

That being said, on the subject, it has been suggested that Haruhi, after the concert, should just learn to settle and live a 'normal' life, or rather, an extraordinary 'normal' life.
Which I disagree to the fullest because it was that hunt for aliens, time travellers and espers that created them in her world, and made the plausible (and the way the show presented them makes them rather plausibe even in our world)
You could say I'm a fan of Suzumiya as a person. I could say 'i don't know why...' but that's a lie. I do know why.
I still am a fan of aBe Yoshito works. He did the designs for Lain, and NieA_7 (precursor to Haibane Renmei) was his idea.
Essentially:
Lain + NieA - aBe + moe = Haruhi Suzumiya.
For me, Haruhi Suzumiya was the closest to a continuation for NieA_7. But even then, Haruhi is something entirely to herself.
