Cowboy Bebop......one of my favorite anime of all time. It has the 5 great things that make an anime great:

1. A Tragic Hero (Spike)
-Throughout the entire series, we wonder more and more about Spike's horror-filled past. Why he quit the Red Dragon Syndicate, how he got that robotic eye, and his relationship with the two most influential people in his life (Vicious and Julia)
2. Crazy, Beat-em-up Action
- This series has one of the best shooting/fighting scenes and I still watch the ending fight with my mouth gaping wide.
3. Hot chicks
- Faye Valentine and Julia....a Hentai boy's dream......and my dream....
4. A Damn Good Story
- I have to give Shinichiro Watanabe the honors for making a strong, detailed, compelling story. I felt for every single character in Cowboy Bebop and the way things tied all together in the end make it a must see for anyone who even remotely call themselves an anime fan
5. Hot Chicks!......Just Kidding, Amazing Animation
- This anime paved the way for other anime to start using visual effects mixed with hand drawn animation. The smooth fight scenes as Spike kicks the crap out of a thug makes any anime fan appreciate what Cowboy Bebop has to offer

All I have to say is... Best.Anime.Ending.Ever! It will never be topped.

C'mon, if Cowboy Bebop is the topic of discussion, how can you guys forget all about the lovely work that Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts put together for the show? The jazz and blues vibe help attract a lot of outside fans to the series and should definitely be considered to be one of, if not the single most memorable hallmark Bebop has to offer.

Cowboy Bebop's themes of coming to terms with one's past and whether people are nothing more than the sum of their memories may not need further explanation by now, but what struck me so profoundly about that series is the humanity and personal intimacy with which it explored those subjects as well as others.

I think what made it so unique was that, unlike common practice, this cast of "heroes" wasn't embarking on some quest nor were they united by an ideal of any sort. Not even a sense of friendship or affection existed within the group. Basically, you had a bunch of people brought together by circumstance and self-interest, simply trying to get by and attempting to figure out their respective lives along the way. They spent constant time together yet each of them felt isolated and alone. There's something very real about that.

There are just so many things I love about Bebop. Characterization, story, possibly the greatest soundtrack in movie/tv/anime/etc. history, but there's another thing that I truely love about the show.

If you were to ask many different people what kind of genre Bebop would be in, you would probably get many different answers. Despite the fact that it has a lot of action. I don't think that Bebop has a fixed genre. Each episode seems to be dedicated to a different genre, from Ed's comedic turn in the spotlight in "Mushroom Samba" to the film noir-style storytelling of "The Real Folk Blues, pt. 1". Each genre is balanced out through the storytelling so the viewers don't have a chance of getting bored. For a comedy/action hybrid anime fan like me, Bebop definately satisfied my hunger.

Oh yeah, and Spike is the epitome of all that is cool.

I mean, what can you say about Bebop that hasnt already been said? Its in the top 3 listings in every Anime News Network top 10 list. It is easily the most popular anime EVAR.

Since everyone is saying things like "oh Spike is so cool" and "heres my list of why this show is awesome" (and I agree with all of it, CB is my 2nd fav anime) Im just gonna comment on the music, seeing as I am a music freak, especially when it comes to jazz.

Obvoiusly everybody loves the Seatbelt's TANK! and any anime fan will immediately recognize it. Same thing goes for Real Folk Blues. However, every track on the OST is a gem, and there are some lesser known songs from the show that really, well, pwn. Some of these include the harmonica heavy Digging My Potato, the drop-dead-gorgeous rendition of Ave Maria that had me, an opera/classical music buff mind you, dropping my jaw to the floor, as it is by far the best rendition of Ave Maria I have ever heard. Other songs like Dont Bother None and You Make Me Cool are also high on my list of great Bebop music. Basically, this soundtrack is amazing, and I still listen to it all the time, its got a permanent spot in my cd holder in my car.

Oh and if you dont like jazz, there is a great metal song too :D

Well, we have one of the very few un-emo/un-androgynous heroes in anime, who also had a tragic end. So that alone makes this pretty unique. Also, wasn't this anime that kick started the whole Adult Swim thing. I mean prior to that, the only place to see no-so-edited down anime on tv was public access or like.....Canada.

Pierrot le Fou and Real Folk Blue pt.2 were the greatest episodes ever, btw.

Cowboy Bebop is summed up in one simple word:

Life.

Yes, every character - especially Vicious - has much dramatic depth to them, even Edward. What has to be fully appreciated is the diversity of the series. Every character represents something different about ourselves and individuals walking in everyday life. Some will criticize that Bebop utilizes religious, racial, sexually oriented and any other possible stereotype. The truth is, Bebop mirrored what society truly is with a science fiction backdrop.

The music, oh lordy the music is so great. I challenge anyone who frequents this site to NOT find any song from Bebop on their hard drive (and if you don't, seriously I'm being rhetorical). I took a trip out west towards Yellowstone five years ago, and for a long stretch of highway in Wyoming, I was driving through one the most beautiful regions of the country. I could see mountains in the background while the highway was sandwiched between acres of crops. With that setting, I must have listened to 'Jupiter Jazz' on loop for at least an hour. I could not think of a more perfect moment then the moments I enjoyed on that stretch in Wyoming.

I could go on, but lets be honest here. If it's not your favorite, Cowboy Bebop lost by a close margin and is resting in a cool second place in your hearts. For me, it is my favorite, my baby of anime. I don't watch too much, but Cowboy Bebop is truly a work of art, from storytelling to the animation to the music. It's not perfect, and what is? It's just the closest thing you can get to it.

In the end, Cowboy Bebop forces you to look at yourself in ways you may never have. Maybe that's a bit too dramatic, but that's what it did for me. Maybe it was while quietly watching the credits drop from the top to the bottom of the screen during 'Blue', or maybe it was trying to find out why Spike had to die. Who knows, but for that moment, I looked at life in a different way.

Samurai Champloo was just the same, but with hip-hop samurai-fighting ninjas and a guy who smelled like sunflowers. Oh and there was a girl there too, I think...

it is in my eccentric, yet well informed opinion... upon viewing the entire series numerous times.. that spike and vicious are the same person. dopplegangers, whatever you want to call it. the same person, existing simultanieously (or not?) yet in different bodies. maybe even a "fight blub" style thing where one of them is just COMPLETELY made up... and we'll never knew. japanese writers are clever like that. :)
