My only point was that I come to Japanator for otaku news and not hard news. I don't see what's wrong with that.

I get barraged all day, every day, with this stuff and it's nice to come here and kind of "unplug" and indulge in an innocent hobby. It's a temporary escape. But if this site is to become a platform for socio-political outrage, whatever side of the fence you sit on, then change the site name and format. I know this is only one post, but that's how it starts.

The end of the original post says, "What do you think?" I posted what I thought, but apparently, you can only post what you think as long as it's in agreement with the immediate majority. Otherwise you are verbally berated and insulted.

Now, we can all participate in a heated debate throwing out reductum ad absurdum, saying what classes we've taken, shoring up our pedigree and assuming some intellectual or moral authority, but at the end of the day, are we really going to convince the other side we're right? No. No we're not.

I respect that others have a differing view from me. This is America and we all have that right. I also applaud Zac's attempt at an intellectual discourse, but I disagree with the premise and the venue. So sue me.

So before we start invoking Hitler's name and insulting each other's mothers, why don't we get back to why we all come to this site to begin with.

I would like to add, I don't think it's the same as taking a white person and putting them in blackface. I think it's the same as taking Sotamayor and putting her in a robe and sandals, or adding like four more arms and painting her blue or whatever Mohammed looks like (since we're not allowed to guess). I can understand the feeling of racism and I wouldnet be suprised at all if it was actually meant to be that way. However, I think this should'nt even be an issue, if anybody is bieng truly hurt and/or offended by such a childish tactic then I think they need to re-think how much confidence in there own race they have. Also their own self-confidence. Point, this article should'nt be causing the stir it is.

More then likely it's an attempt to draw attention to the double standard that's on display when it comes to several of Sotomayor's racist/sexist statements concerning how much better she is then any white man could possibly be.

I may be conservative, but I don't support using the same smear tactics some of the more hardcore left leaning folks use. You can't fight bigotry with bigotry, you can only shed light on it and educate people.

With all the said, I don't really think that this article fits with what I've come to expect from Japanator. This feels more like a personal agenda article rather then one that's in tune with the overall entertainment/hobbyist theme of the website as a whole.
