Surfing isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, so why go and make it harder by using a tatami mat for a board? I guess just so you could say it's been done.
After waxing down the board, giving it a few practice strokes in the sand and mentally preparing himself, our video guide takes the board into the water with less than stellar results. It seems that surfing on a rectangular object really doesn't do well with the waves: in fact, they just flip the mat right on over.
Nice try, dude, but I think you'd best be off just surfing with your board and not ruining your tatami mats. But I guess it's something you can do with your mat if you've spilled coffee or wine on it and now it's irrevocably stained.
Any of you surfers think you could do better than this guy with a mat?
