Well, this was certainly unexpected. Saint Young Men, a popular manga that shows what happens when both Jesus Christ and Buddha end up sharing a dorm together, will be receiving an animated movie. Not an OVA, not a short series, but a movie. Oh fine, I lied. It's getting an OVA and a movie. The news was revealed by Morning magazine, and later confirmed on their own website along with some casting details. Even if you haven't heard of the series before, you may recognise the art. This is because the author is also responsible for Arakawa Under the Bridge.
The movie will be animated by A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Black Rock Shooter) and directed by Noriko Takao, who has previously worked with some pretty big shows, including Clannad, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and K-On!. Certainly looks like it's in safe hands, right?
The OVA will be released with the eighth volume of manga on December 3rd, but it's unknown when the movie will eventually see the light of day. Don't worry too much, as the Morning website mentions that it'll definitely be released sometime this century.
