Sylvain White to direct Robotech movie? photo

Nothing's official yet, but we can speculate all we want. There's been some talk for, oh, at least a few years now on the possibility of a Hollywood movie version of Robotech.

So I was checking out iF Magazine (shameless plug -- I write about anime and manga there). And I saw an article on Robotech (not something I wrote). iF Magazine doesn't cover a lot of anime, so I knew it had to be something big.

According to the article, director Sylvain White has expressed interest in directing the Robotech movie, if in fact the movie's made. He said he watched the show as a kid in France, and that he'd liked the draft he'd read of the script.

To be honest, I haven't seen the movies White has worked on, so I don't have any opinion on how he might be as a director for this. Has anyone in the Japanator audience watched his stuff? Do you think he has what it takes for this? If there is going to be a Robotech movie, what would you like to see in it?

For starters, I wouldn't mind seeing the movie retitled to Macross...
Robotech? Ew.
So...it'll be a combination of Gurren Lagann, Macross Frontier and Gundam Unicorn, eh?
Oh, and I mean a literal combination. Simon will meet Alto, while drilling underground trying to escape the Federation. It will be a masterpiece!
That director should watch the original first.

Also, aren't there still a lot of copyright issues over it?
Robotech is not anime so why is it on here?
Hey, Robotech was arguably the first series I ever gave a damn about, not to mention I know of many individuals whom got into anime after watching said series. It's a gateway anime.
Agreed, Bard. I remember liking some shows that happened to be anime long before "anime" was even a word you'd find in secret corners of comic cons, but Robotech cemented my love for it. I knew when i watched it that "cartoons" could be so much more than... well, cartoons.

And saying Robotech is not anime? I'd like to see the reasons behind that statement. Sure, it was adapted and rewritten from other anime, but... i'd say that in itself would make the point that it is, in fact, anime.

And what i'd like to see in the movie (assuming it's the Macross saga, and not the rest): a less-annoying Minmay, mature subject matter, substance over 'splosions, and faithful mech design. Please no Bayformers treatment on this. Also: Morgan Freeman as Captain Gloval.
My name is Tana Sarnt, and over the past year, I’ve created an original Robotech live-action film with the sole purpose of landing a role to play a Veritech fighter pilot in the upcoming Robotech live-action feature film by Maguire Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures.

Please visit www.projectrobotech.com to see my film and read about my story. Believe it or not, this journey started in March of 2008, not long after I heard the announcement for the Live-Action film. As I’m sure for many of you reading this, something came alive inside of me as soon as I heard. As an actor in New York, I am in the unique position to actually make my childhood dream of being a Veritech fighter pilot a reality.

I am a pragmatic person and realize that I am an underdog here, but with the right support I have faith that I can pull this off. I hope you enjoy the film and know that as I was filming it, I had Robotech/Macross (I'm not too interested in the distinction, but just know that it's all good) fans like you in mind.

Sincerely,

Tana
@Tana -- good luck!
