Masao Maruyama wants to make Pluto anime, doesn't have the cash

You may know about FicZone 14, an otaku convention in Granada, Spain. It's a fairly recent event, but it's been nabbing some big-name guests pretty rapidly. Most recently, they featured Masao Maruyama, a producer and co-found...

New Marvel Avengers OVA to be released March 25th

In this apartment the Marvel vs. DC debate is still waged on a weekly basis. My girlfriend believes that DC is the superior brand while I, on the other hand, feel that Marvel is better. Part of my evidence for this is that Ma...

It's Over!

It's hard to believe that Soma's having trouble with this battle. The man is able to wield the souls of various creatures and entities. On top of that, a good number of his weapons contain holy and/or magical properties. Then again, none of his abilities have the power to destroy an entire planet, so the Dark Candidate's attacks weren't able to take out all of Nero's parts in one go. After Soma depletes his own energy, Chaos devours him with his Soil of Genesis. Nrvnqsr Chaos wins! (5 > 2)

Now that we're done with October themed battle fest, I think that it’s about time that we return to the basics of fighting. Thanks to a suggestion from my good old buddy, Baron Von Vogl, we’re going to have a good old boxing match during this week’s fight!

It's Over!

Seras and Grave are locked in an endless shootout. Both opponents are chock-full of lead, and their regenerative abilities continue to negate each blast. After Grave brings out the Demolition Shots, Seras decides to unleash her true power. Since Grave's healing properties are reliant on blood, the Draculina pounds the Deadman into submission. Luckily, Grave isn't an enemy of the Hellsing Organization, so Seras decides to spare his life. Who knows, both fighters might become comrades down the road. Seras Victoria wins! (9 > 4)

As we enter the second week of October, two vampire hunters that are part blood drinkers will settle their score in the Japanator Arena to see who's the superior slayer of the undead! In anticipation of any unexpected attacks, let’s introduce our fighters before the sun goes down.

It's Over!

Gene Starwind fired off every Caster Shell in his arsenal, but Vash was able to see each one coming from a mile away. Since Vash can move at high speeds, Gene was depleting his ammo reserves trying to land a hit. In keeping with his vow not to kill, the 60 Billion Dollar man decided to just knock Gene out with the butt of his gun. With Gene lying on the floor unconscious, Vash could only look forward to having a drink with the man after he wakes up from his long sleep. Vash the Stampede wins! (10 > 9)

Since it's month of October, Japanator Arena is hosting a series of matches that revolve around characters with properties that are associated with Halloween. For our first matchup, my good friend Baron Von Vogl helped me find two undead fighters that specialize in using heavy weaponry.

It's Over!

Well, what can I say? You can't mess with Jack Frost, and Blaze the Cat's flames were not enough to melt the ice. Since this Jack Frost was fused to resist fire, our ‘Hee-Ho’ shouting fairy only had to use only one Bufu spell to put out Blaze's fire. Jack Frost wins! (14 > 1)

Lots of guns have been blazing this week, so I have decided to go with another battle two iconic heroes that wield a firearm with special properties. However, the real credit goes to Baron Von Vogl for coming up with this match up when we were hanging out. But anyways, let's introduce our fighters!

He's traveled across the far ends of the galaxy to find the Galactic Leyline with the Outlaw Star, and he is now ready to test his Caster Shells in what might be his most challenging battle yet! Since he managed to come across some new Shells, Gene Starwind is ready to test them out!

Sixty Billion Double Dollars is a lot of money when you do the math. Despite the huge bounty, Vash the Stampede doesn’t look like a wanted criminal. However, his gunman skills and his love for doughnuts are a force to be reckoned with, so he won’t be holding back this time around.

Both fighters wield special firearms, so this battle will be based on the way how each fighter uses their weapons. Your votes and persuasion skills will act as the real bullets in settling this showdown. Make sure that you add a +1 to the person that you side with, since it well let us keep tabs on the bullets fired in combat. Gene and Vash will fight from today till Thursday, so do your best to vote on time. Once the battle comes to a complete end, you can drop by during the beginning of the next match to see who wins. Before the guns go off, I recommend that you head to your seats as soon as possible.

Begin the Showdown!

Review: Black Lagoon Roberta's Blood Trail photo
Review: Black Lagoon Roberta's Blood Trail
by Tim Sheehy

Black Lagoon remains one of my guiltiest pleasures. The series shares so much in common with v-cinema, from its harsh take on the human condition, to its unapologetic depictions of violence, and buried beneath, stories worth telling -- twisted, though they may be. It's almost as if Takeshi Mikke and John Woo had a love-child.

To that end, I've spent the better part of three years anxiously awaiting the domestic release of Roberta's Blood Trail. When FUNimation announced their license at Anime Expo 2010, nobody really expected to have to wait so long for just five episodes, but wait I did, and patiently at that. Was it worth it? Find out after the jump.

Hunter x Hunter gets a second film this winter

Hunter x Hunter is one of those manga series that I passed on for a long time due to its art style. At first glance, it appeared to be fairly typical shonen jump material, which meant I kept it in my backlog for years.  ...
