Happy Kaixa Day! photo
Happy Kaixa Day!
by Salvador GRodiles

It's Sept. 13th, and it's time to celebrate an important holiday. Today marks the special day that's dedicated to Masato Kusaka, a.k.a. Kamen Rider Kaixa. Due to the fact that the guy dials 9-1-3 on his Kaixa Phone before he transforms, many toku fans have decided to turn Sept. 13th into Kaixa's special day. Hell, even Kohei Murakami (Kamen Rider 555's Masato/Kaixa) celebrates this day, as he writes a yearly blog post to commemorate this special occasion.

Aside from praising Masato, Kaixa Day is the only time of the year where you get to treat everyone like trash. Better yet, if you have a childhood crush, then you'll have the great privilege of manipulating him/her into thinking that he/she should be yours. Of course, you'll get to turn your love interest against anyone that tries to get in your way, since the point of this holiday is to make sure that everything goes well in your favor.

Seeing that these actions could ruin your current lifestyle, I recommend checking out 2014's Kaixa Day art gallery instead. As a heads up, the full credit to artists' pieces can be found below as well.

This corgi's costume is over 9,000

Cosplay? Corgsplay? With their long shape, oversized head, and ridiculous features, Welsh Corgis make the best costume dogs. And as members of the herding dog group, they're a perfect fit as scouter users. I almost couldn't b...

Otakon '14: Cosplay photo
Otakon '14: Cosplay
by Jeff Chuang

Otakon 2014 flew by last weekend, in usual form, cramming way more content than what one can expect within a simple weekend. The cosplayers are out and baffling the crowd. The local baseball program even talked about it, and what kind of pictures the broadcasters can take if they were perusing the convention halls.

At the East Coast's biggest cons, major franchises struck somewhat of a balance. No one show dominated the other, probably because with Sailor Moon making a comeback, there is a bandwagon for everyone. Check out the gallery below!

Idol of the Week: Sano Hinako

Name: Sano HinakoBirthdate: October 13, 1994Hometown: Tokyo, JapanMeasurements: 84/51/87 cm  This week's amazing idol is talented actress an model Sano Hinako. She's sporting a killer smile and lips that just don't quit. She's a super charming babe, that I would share a meal with anytime. However I just have to ask. What's with the knit hat in the tropical pictures? Is that a thing now?

AX '14: Cosplays photo
AX '14: Cosplays
by Jeff Chuang

It's really amazing how Anime Expo continues to be one of the most diverse cons when it comes to cosplaying things from anime and manga. For those of us canvassing the whole thing, note that while the count of Homestucks have dropped, they are still a force to reckon with. What is more of a surprise is the percentage of Kill la Kill cosplayers versus Attack on Titan cosplayers--it's about even. This is distinctly not so much the case at every other con I attended this year where survey corps jackets reigned, so it's something that stuck out to me.

Maybe it's the July SoCal sun that makes the Nudist Beach "outfits" all that more sensible? Put on some sunscreen guys! Maybe that's also what makes our guests of honors at AX, Ami Koshimizu and Ryouka Yuzuki, cosplay their Kill la Kill characters as well. Unfortunately technical difficulty prevented me for featuring those two, but instead you can check out anison duo Angela in their team Blue get-up from the K: Missing Kings premiere.

Celebrate July 4th with some US Navy ship girls! photo
Celebrate July 4th with some US Navy ship girls!
by Josh Tolentino

It's AMERICA day today, and you know what's pretty cool and American? The United States Navy! And you know what cool American thing is grossly underrepresented in Kantai Collection, everyone's favorite strategy game  featuring moe-fied World War II-era warships?

That's right, I'm talking about the United States Navy!

Thankfully, it's not just patriots like myself who realize this injustice. A artist who goes by "November☆" realized that only Japan's kantai was collected in Kantai Collection (plus a cameo by Bismarck) and sought to correct the imbalance by illustrating a few US Navy capital kan-musu ("ship girls") to join the fleet, including the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet, the battleship U.S.S. Iowa, and even the never-built Montana-class battleship, U.S.S. Louisiana, the last battleship ever ordered by the navy.

Check out some more illustrations in the gallery below, and give an all-American salute to this Chinese artist for helping represent the good ol' U.S. of A in a Japanese videogame!
