The Simpsons are pretty big Shonen JUMP readers

This one's more of a blip compared to the cameo-fest in last week's issue of Spider-Man, but I'm intrigued by a peculiar level of anime savvy shown in a new visual gag from Sunday's episode of The Simpsons. Doing their yearly...

Here's Red Bull's (surprisingly good) Japanese game music documentary

I never would've imagined that a company best known for a drink designed to keep you awake for all-nighters doing your college thesis would come up with a pretty great documentary series about Japanese video game music, but ...

So some guy has 13 Idolm@ster character standees

So over the past couple weeks, the internet is circulating all kinds of pictures of fans posing (or not posing) with their latest purchase. Big deal, right? It's only notable because standees are really cool, and they're rare...

Celebrate July 4th with some US Navy ship girls! photo
Celebrate July 4th with some US Navy ship girls!
by Josh Tolentino

It's AMERICA day today, and you know what's pretty cool and American? The United States Navy! And you know what cool American thing is grossly underrepresented in Kantai Collection, everyone's favorite strategy game  featuring moe-fied World War II-era warships?

That's right, I'm talking about the United States Navy!

Thankfully, it's not just patriots like myself who realize this injustice. A artist who goes by "November☆" realized that only Japan's kantai was collected in Kantai Collection (plus a cameo by Bismarck) and sought to correct the imbalance by illustrating a few US Navy capital kan-musu ("ship girls") to join the fleet, including the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet, the battleship U.S.S. Iowa, and even the never-built Montana-class battleship, U.S.S. Louisiana, the last battleship ever ordered by the navy.

Check out some more illustrations in the gallery below, and give an all-American salute to this Chinese artist for helping represent the good ol' U.S. of A in a Japanese videogame!

Virtuous (Bi)Cycle: Yowapeda inspires lady cyclists

I love Japanese words. That might come as natural, given where I'm writing, but the way Japanese use words - foreign words in particular - is appealingly idiosyncratic. Case in point: "Boom". Where we filthy foreigners might ...

Japanese maids won't judge your otaku bedsheets

Admit it: if and whenever you get a chance to go to Japan, you'll spend way too much money on shameless character goods. If you've already bought a dakimakura pillow, then you might find yourself upgrading to a full sheet set...
