Weekend Japanatainment - 90's Anime Movie Edition

Dec 10 // Red Veron
[embed]35433:5983:0[/embed] Anime: Princess Mononoke I must confess, I have not seen many Ghibli films. No, please don't take away my weeb card! It's the only thing I have left. However, I have seen this movie once and I was super impressed in how different and wonderfully made this movie turned out for a medium that was often seen as something just for children. Strong female lead with some cool action and beautiful animation, this one just needs to be seen if you love the anime medium.   [embed]35433:5984:0[/embed] Anime: Ninja Scroll Another one that I haven't seen. PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY CARD AWAY. This one is another one of those anime that many kids and teens rented in the 90's from the video store because the cover looked cool and it had 'ninja' in the title. Then they watched it and got a great dose of really cool visuals with plenty violence and mature stuff that those under 18 shouldn't be watching.   [embed]35433:5985:0[/embed] Anime: Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade Another cool looking anime movie that I have not watched. HAVE MERCY ON ME. Just looking at the cover, this one just looks pretty cool with the soldiers in their gear with the red glowing eyes. This one is set in alternate 1950s where Germany conquered Japan. Why have I not seen this one yet? It's perfect just for me.   [embed]35433:5986:0[/embed] Anime: Perfect Blue Now, this one is a favorite of mine that I first watched on a PlayStation Portable UMD and I still own that UMD. I love this movie, made by the late great Satoshi Kon (Paranoia Agent, Paprika), this is a suspenseful psychological thriller that just really takes that suspense and thriller to the next level and that 'psychological' part just goes to beyond. Just watch this movie, it's a must watch for anyone who likes psychological thrillers.   Is there an anime movie from the 1990's that you love? Did I forget to add it on here? SHARE IT IN THE COMMENTS BELOW! I wanna know!

Weekend Japanatainment - Live Action Anime Edition

Sep 24 // Red Veron
[embed]35283:5858:0[/embed] Rurouni Kenshin: Origins Here's an adaptation from Japan that did a great job with bringing the soul of the source material. While this adaptation truncates the manga's story (in three movies), it does a fine job in presentation and is an overall enjoyable experience. The first movie is definitely something you can show to those unfamiliar to the series.   [embed]35283:5859:0[/embed] Gatchaman (2013) I haven't seen this movie yet but I didn't hear good stuff about it. The costumes and the trailer looks cool though. I'll give it a watch soon.   [embed]35283:5860:0[/embed] Speed Racer (2008) This trailer looks like a lot of fun and I've heard from people that it is a fun time and I think it looks like a good way to modernize the source material. I'll watch it soon too.   [embed]35283:5861:0[/embed] Fist of the North Star (1995) I remember seeing little bits of this movie on different cable movie channels over the years, and looking at the trailer, it looks like they did their best to bring it to the big screen. I think Hollywood should try again, especially with the recent success of Mad Max: Fury Road as a reference.   [embed]35283:5863:0[/embed] Gantz Part 1 (2010) & Gantz Part 2: Perfect Answer (2011) I've seen only the first movie and the loosely adapted anime version of Gantz and the 2010 film was a good time. While not as brutal as the anime or the manga, it still provided that gritty feeling close to the source material.   [embed]35283:5862:0[/embed] Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!) I loved what I saw of the anime adaptation of this show and this trailer seems like my cup of tea. While the lead male actor doesn't quite have the same large proportions of the character he's portraying, he still pulls off a believable look that does justice to the source material.   [embed]35283:5857:0[/embed] Ghost in the Shell (2017) Here is one of the short clips that recently came out of the new Ghost in the Shell adaptation. Check out the rest here for more of the clips.   Is there a live action adaptation of an anime or manga that you love and/or hate? SHARE IN THE COMMENTS BELOW! I wanna know!

Weekend Japanatainment - Japanese Sports Edition

Aug 27 // Red Veron
[embed]35218:5801:0[/embed] Japanese Synchronized Swimming to Frozen Synchronized swimming is popular in Japan and even male High School students engage in this sport. There have been movies and TV shows about Synchronized Swimming and it works since it is a team sport that very much emphasizes teamwork and timing. So splash (pun intended) in some drama to a story about a group of people trying to work toward a single goal, and you're gold!   [embed]35218:5802:0[/embed] Japanese Pole Vaulter's Pole gets in the way Read title.   [embed]35218:5803:0[/embed] Slam Dunk anime Opening One of the best sports anime and manga and was once rated as number one manga in the 2006 Japan Media Arts festival. The manga needs a new adaptation, I don't care if they make them all pretty boys just gimme the anime in modern day animation.   [embed]35218:5804:0[/embed] How to make a Sports anime Sports in anime/manga has been a staple genre that has been around for ages and authors have pretty much figured out the formula (or in this video, the MODERN day formula).   [embed]35218:5805:0[/embed] Japanese High School Sports Festival YouTuber SakuraKisetsu, who went to Japan as an exchange student, made a video about her Japanese school's Sports Festival and it looks very similar to what we see in anime, just no hijinks or anything supernatural or would get anyone in trouble in real life.   [embed]35218:5807:0[/embed] Great Baseball Catch Baseball is very popular in Japan for something referred to as America's pasttime.   [embed]35218:5806:0[/embed] Mario at the 2016 Rio Olympics Because NBC in the US is run by clueless executives who don't know how to maximize views and discovery for their Olympic coverage, I am unable to properly embed the Olympic handoff to Japan. Just please click the video to be linked to YouTube so you can watch the very amusing video where Japan's Prime Minister is secretly an Italian plumber who like mushrooms.   What is your favorite Japanese related Sports thing?
